The result was merge to Mega Man: The Power Battle. An alternate title can be discussed on the target's Talk page. I should note that while sourcing is required for a standalone article, it is not a sufficient condition for having a standalone article, especially if readers are better served by seeing the content in the broader context of another article. Information Note: This merge proposal was originally opened on the article's talk page. Following the March 2026 RfC, formal merge discussions are now held at AfD rather than the historical Proposed article mergers process (PAM). I've moved the discussion accordingly per WP:TPO.

Merge proposal

I've been considering trying to clean up the Mega Man arcade game articles recently, but as it stands, I don't know that Mega Man: The Power Battle or Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters has enough coverage to stand on their own. However, I do believe that the sources would be sufficient if the article were to cover both games. As it stands, the existing sources in use almost entirely overlap between the two articles. The two have very similar gameplay, and with the exception of a single plug-and-play and Street Fighter 6 (which could also end up changing down the line), one has never been released without the other, meaning they are very rarely covered or reviewed on their own merits rather than as a collective unit. Given this, I believe a relatively strong article can be created by merging the content from both articles into one, even more so if we also include Rockman Battle & Fighters, their combined NGPC port. I've created a sandbox containing the contents of my proposed merge of all three to better illustrate my point. If merged, I might suggest titling the new article "Mega Man: The Power Battle and The Power Fighters", similar to The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages. Input on this proposal is welcomed. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 22:59, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

  • Merge. The sourcing fairly consistently discusses Power Battle and Power Fighters together, and there is a lot of overlap between the articles, which makes them a good target for merging. I like the look of the proposed article at the sandbox; I would suggest adding subheadings in the gameplay or reception to more clearly separate content about Battle & Fighters from the arcade games but everything else looks great. I've added a subheading in reception for B&F, but since it doesn't come up at all in gameplay, that section is left as is. Content about B&F's differences, along with those of the PS2 version, are isolated to the release section, with each one getting a disparate paragraph to clearly delineate where discussion of that version starts and ends. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 02:30, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

  • Oppose merge. Both articles have sufficient sourcing to stand on their own. Cortador (talk) 08:49, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
I really don't know that they do. Like I said, there is *tremendous* source overlap between the two (MM1 currently has 16 sources, MM2 has 13, and 11 of those appear on both articles), and I think there's more benefit to having one good page than 2-3 lackluster ones. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 14:31, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Support merge. A glance at some of the sourcing for myself indicate to me that they might be better discussed as one page given the overlap. I also trust the nominator's experience in the area and personal efforts. For both of these reasons I'm inclined to support. λ NegativeMP1 01:11, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
Support merge but oppose working title. The reason why the article on the Oracle games are named as such is because they were released on the same day and meant to complement each other. Given that we are considering merging together articles about a video game, its sequel, and a portable version of those two games, I believe it would be most appropriate to name this article Mega Man fighting games or something like that. Hmm...I'm hesitant, if only because I worry that this opens the door for people to start trying to cram in details about other fighting games featuring Mega Man (i.e. Smash Bros., Capcom Vs., Onimusha Blade Warriors, etc.), and I don't want to dilute the scope. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 21:57, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
