While the article's reliance on the paper "Mathematicians Going East" is not copyright infringement because it has a CC BY 4.0 license, none of the details in that paper satisfy WP:NACADEMIC criteria. This article was created by Prezbo based on the names in that paper, and while I passed Wladimir Lewicki for having a named chair, this mathematician's relative impact is questionable. Further searching did not yield additional coverage to satisfy WP:GNG. His The Theory of Potential and Spherical Harmonics textbook was reviewed by others, but they do not discuss Sternberg himself. - Keep. In my mind the presence of a non-English Wikipedia article (German Wikipedia in this case) is a pretty good indication of notability. The German Wikipedia article lists several additional sources that could be used to expand the article. However, this is less likely to happen if it it's deleted. - The additional sources presented in the German article do not establish notability. The Mathematics Genealogy Project entry is minor coverage, Tobies' listing of PhD math candidates only offers shorthand of the same work below the WP:NACADEMIC threshold, and the remaining links are about minor instances of Sternberg's name in immigration documents or Cornell staff shakeups. - It sounds like you're skipping over the sources listed in the "literatur" section:

- Comment Here's Sternberg's obituary in the journal Physikalische Blätter: , which the paper "Mathematicians Going East" heavily relies upon. While establishing the biographical facts of Sternberg's life, it does not show his relative impact. ViridianPenguin🐧 (💬) 20:10, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
- Keep. the obituary in a scientific journal shows notability, these are quite rare. There is also this discussion here even though quite tangential. --hroest 20:25, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
- Keep. I found an article in Mathematica Bohemica that specifically addresses the importance of his work (and some other sources). Jahaza (talk) 23:08, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
