Wikipedia:List of content strangely available on Wikimedia Commons

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wikimedia Commons hosts content that appears to be copyrighted or out of the project scope at first glance that would not be expected to be hosted on the site.

The list features content such as video game assets, movie clips, and music videos. These remain available for various reasons: because they were uploaded under a free commercial license by a copyright holder, they were published without U.S. copyright requirements before 1989, they fail the threshold of originality, or because they were produced by a government (making them public domain).

While some content on Commons (like internet memes) may be out of the project scope, some of it is within scope because it's educational or informative.
