Use of Matrix clients on Wikimedia From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Matrix is a decentralized/distributed real-time communication network that combines the openness and flexibility of solutions like IRC with the user-friendliness of modern centralized communication networks like Discord, Mattermost, Slack, Telegram, and so on. Editors can chat by text like WP:IRC, but also by voice calls, unlike IRC.

Run by a small group of volunteers, the Wikimedia Community Matrix space is neither owned nor controlled by the Wikimedia Foundation. The space and corresponding rooms were set up for Wikipedians who already use Matrix clients, or who prefer it over IRC or Discord. Conversations held in Matrix space may be read by anyone who joins the space.

Guidelines

This Matrix space is for discussions relevant to Wikipedia and related projects. Each room has a topic to follow.

The public nature of Matrix means that the chat history is available to anyone that joins. Critiques of other users should be discussed in private message with them if possible, rather than risking publicly embarrassing them. Try to put yourself in their position to see whether or not what you say may offend.

Wikipedia:Civility is considered to apply to this Matrix space.

These guidelines are not exhaustive. Please use common sense when using the Matrix space. Moderators may use their discretion to remove users from the space or rooms for any reason.
