Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Bands and musicians

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Bands and musicians. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Bands and musicians|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Bands and musicians. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

The book is the one thing that could justify this article existing. I can build out the book section in this article to see if it makes an argument for not merging. Dflovett (talk) 16:19, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

But this solo career-based article for Arner is nonviable because her solo albums and other activities have received no reliable media coverage that I can find, and those works are only visible in the usual social media and self-upload services. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:58, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

Notability doesn't appear to be established with provided sources. It could be a matter of WP:TOOSOON but I don't see the amount of WP:SIGCOV in reliable sources to warrant an article. If the decision is to keep the article, it needs to be moved to Dorottya Karsay so that her name is presented correctly. Se7enNationArmy2024 (talk) 17:15, 12 June 2026 (UTC)

The use of both "Dorottya Karsay" and "Karsay Dorottya" is merely due to confusion about Hungarian names in English Wikipedia, because in Hungary the surname traditionally appears first. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:29, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

  • Weak keep per WP:SINGER#M2 (chart) and WP:CREATIVE #3 (e.g. p183). There are also other sources discussing her (such as Magyar Nemzet), but these are just spewing out propaganda, so they're not reliable. Nonetheless, it should be considered whether it might be better to create an article for the song or Milla, and then merge this article into that. Kovcszaln6 (talk) 08:16, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Weak Delete - Kudos to the previous voter for finding some deep Hungarian sources, but my assessment of those is the ("weak") opposite. Having a top ten hit in Hungary certainly helps but it seems like a fluke of the WP:ONEEVENT variety. Otherwise Karsay has been mentioned in some media reports as present at events and serving for organizations, but my assessment of those is that they add up to a WP:NOTRESUME violation. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:52, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

Those sources merely indicate that they are now using the name Dodo Karsay, and the sources do nothing for the shortage of notability under discussion here. That will still be a challenge in the draft system. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 12:43, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

This article seems to fail WP:GNG and both the basic and additional criteria for WP:NBIO. There are no sources that aren't self-published and the sources cited are just a personal collection of works that are not accessible. I've tried to do my due diligence and made numerous searches (standard Google, The Wikipedia Library, Google News, Books, Scholar, etc.) and I can't find any significant, independent coverage of this person. The lack of any reliable sources makes it extremely difficult to verify anything that's said in this article. The non-neutral language and overall puffery also give off the sense of self-promotion. A better article about this subject exists here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_Jacksons_band_members This article essentially has no reason to exist when there's a different article that covers the same topic, and does a better job at doing so. Might consider the more specific redirect target of The Jackson 5#Band members. Given that change, I am on board. RaisedArizona (talk) 23:55, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
I agree with the merge. BrothaTimothy (talk · contribs) 23:58, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge and Redirect. There should be at most one list article. The other title should redirect. (Ordinarily a list article name should match the parent, which is at the Jackson 5 not the Jacksons, but in this case that's not appropriate because the Jackson-5 name corresponds to only one of the many lineups.) Deleting the other article rather than redirecting is obviously a bad idea. Both articles' edit histories should be preserved, and the Jackson 5 one is much longer; dunno why ElhamHusey created a new list instead of renaming the old one. Having one list redirect to the parent while keeping the other list article would be stupid. Some editors seem to think any list article at all is superfluous, in which case both should redirect to the relevant section of the parent article. But that requires a complete overhaul of this Afd. jnestorius(talk) 01:36, 11 June 2026 (UTC)

Non-notable band with zero sources in the article (anything that might seem promising 404s) and a whole lot of nothing online. Most results are for a more recent band with the same name in the U.K. I would nominate this for prod, but a previous successful PROD was contested at REFUND by a legacy IP editor in 2011 and it is therefore ineligible for that process. • Delete - Searching is tough due to another band of the same name from England (mentioned by the nominator) as well as a metal band called The Myopia Condition. But a targeted search in conjunction with Connecticut or member names reveals nothing but brief listings in directory sites and their own social media. I can find no reliable media coverage with which to build an encyclopedic article. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:41, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

No clear evidence of Notability. I was unable to access 'The Hindu' general references bulleted in the References section, which could change the picture. List of Carnatic instrumentalists (or even, List of biochemists) are relevant lists, but both seem to require an existing article to link to, so 'redirect' does not seem to be a viable option here. I propose merging to Fat White Family as per WP:BANDMEMBER. Mariamneireach out 🕊️ 11:00, 10 June 2026 (UTC)

I certainly believe Saoudi has established independent notability from Fat White Family given his membership of at least two other current musical groups, and his publication of a semi-autobiographical book which became a Sunday Times Best Seller.
Many press pieces have been written (including most sources in the article) about him as an individual, not just as a representative of any of his bands, especially about his book which is largely about his personal life and upbringing. Sktenn (talk) 11:09, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment: I haven't had a chance to do a WP:BEFORE so far but the article references potentially notable activities unrelated to the band which would make the merge inappropriate if covered significantly Taghdtaighde (talk) 23:52, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep: coverage of Saoudi's work apart from the band meets WP:CREATIVE#3, since he "has created or played a major role in co-creating":
  • The anthology The New Frontier: Reflections From the Irish Border which he contributed to is Notable
  • Being guest editor of the Notable literary magazine Ambit should contribute
  • The book he co-authored Ten Thousand Apologies, regardless of its subject, enjoyed considerable success and is Notable
Finally, he is a member of several Notable bands so a redirect is not workable, and a reported split makes that destination doubly inapt Taghdtaighde (talk) 17:37, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

Sources mostly seem to be native advertising.

Radmila Lolly is a "Haute Living Ambassador". Haute Agency is in the business of developing brand ambassadors. Although admittedly this role is not fully clear to me, I'm sufficiently convinced that the numerous articles in Haute Living are not independent; Lolly has some kind of relationship with Haute Living as a client or employee.

Mode Lifestyle Magazine lists prices for "Internal featured article content pages professionally researched and edited by our editors". "Inside South Florida... is a marketing-friendly program dedicated to offering businesses the opportunity to showcase their company/products, reach potential customers and gain results." Jon Stojan is a prolific native advertising writer (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) who apparently uses AI to write articles.

  • Delete. HauteLiving used to mark their "partner content", but stopped doing that; now it's just a vanity press. BroadwayWorld is the same; just a PR factory now. Several of the co-branded "virtual" editions of once-reliable sources. The Billboard link might be interesting, but it's dead with no archives. Cultr is just an SEO blog; as noted Stojan is not a good sign at all. Poking around for other sources reveals an absolute ton of paid placement, advertorials and junk PR. With what's left, I'm not clear that there's anything notable. Maybe if there's a better link to Billboard? Sam Kuru (talk) 04:03, 11 June 2026 (UTC)

Article about a musician / DJ created by a WP:SPA 15 years ago. The reference list is long, but consists entirely of blogs, streaming services, and a handful of passing mentions in reliable sources. Fails WP:NMUSIC / WP:GNG. local family band from Ontario. Nothing about notability Kqol talk 23:09, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

Notability added, including collaborations with Juno and Order of Canada recipient Sean McCann. I would call into question other musicians in *list of musicians from Ontario* article if this does not qualify Larff Productions (talk) 23:32, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
The added McCann collaboration is sourced to McCann's own site and the band's own music store - both primary. Sharing a stage at a small local venue is WP:NOTINHERITED. WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is not a valid argument. Notability gap remains: no significant independent coverage in WP:RS.
Note also a likely WP:COI - the band runs Connors Music, which is cited as a source here. Kqol talk 23:36, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
Reference to Connors music removed. CTV news article linking to the tour and its Canadian cultural significance amid tariff war with trump included, and its concluding Keswick date Larff Productions (talk) 00:07, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete - Sorry but they don't quite reach the music notability requirements in Wikipedia even though they have some accomplishments. The article's various citations to The Georgina Post show that they have some local notice, but otherwise their coverage is typically a brief mention of their appearance at an event. I do not think that sources serve to establish notability; a redirect to the Dave Matthews Band seems appropriate. TheLongTone (talk) 13:47, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

  • Keep: Aside from Dave Matthews Band-related sources (focusing on Lessard specifically), the article contains multiple articles, published by multiple independent sources, discussing him outside of the band, as well as a musical project which he co-founded and leads. • Note: this discussion has been included in the AfD sorting lists for the following topics: Bands and musicians and California. Shellwood (talk) 14:38, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment (Undecided) - In the previous AfD in 2024, I voted to redirect Lessard to Dave Matthews Band because he had not achieved independent notability outside the group and was only ever discussed in the media in conjunction with them. The current version of the article includes some more sources from bassist-specific publications (current footnotes #2, 4, 7) that cover Lessard's accomplishments more directly, which might help but might also run foul afoul of WP standards on non-critical softball interviews. So my not-too-useful vote is "Undecided" for now but I could be persuaded either way if more voters join the discussion. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 18:06, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

Tagged as of dubious notability & unreferenced since March 2023. Lack of notability. TheLongTone (talk) 13:51, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

  • Keep — COI disclosure: I have a family connection to Gary Dunham, and I am not being paid to edit Wikipedia. I am commenting here to point editors to sources and a proposed rewrite rather than directly editing the article.

I have posted a COI edit request on the article Talk page and prepared a sourced rewrite here: User:Dunham82/Gary Dunham rewrite. The current article is poorly sourced, but the subject appears to meet notability guidelines based on newly located sources. These include a bylined 1981 feature profile in ‘‘Contemporary Christian Music’’, a 1980 profile in ‘‘Christian Life’’, independent newspaper coverage in the ‘‘St. Joseph News-Press’’, ‘‘The Tampa Tribune’’, ‘‘Great Falls Tribune’’, and ‘‘Fredericksburg Standard’’, and chart documentation in ‘‘Hot Hits: Christian Hit Radio’’. These sources support Dunham’s early professional music career, touring with the final incarnation of Blues Image, NewPax recordings, charting CCM songs including “Happy Family” and “The Pearl”, and work with Don Francisco as a songwriter, keyboardist, and background vocalist. I understand editors will evaluate the sources independently, but I believe the sourced draft addresses the concern that there is not enough reliable coverage to support the article. We are now going to need actual participation for deletion to stick or even happen. (No opinion.) WCQuidditch 18:22, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

Fails WP:NSINGER: I have considered making an article for her in the past but there is very little meaningful coverage of her in media. Her appearance in Building the Band is pretty small and there isn't any reporting on her beyond listing her as a competitor after which she was pretty quietly eliminated. One song of hers has been trending recently but it hasn't even charted on a national chart. There are more citations needed tags than actual references. orangesclub 🍊 07:01, 4 June 2026 (UTC)

Keep, wait Give it some time. This is a rising artist. If coverage does not rise in the next few months, then delete. Rushtheeditor (talk) 02:02, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
Keep I have added more information and sources, which I believe that can help to support its individual notability. Techgamer534 (talk) 10:05, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
Most of these additional sources are passing mentions of her - having a source on her alma mater does not demonstrate notability as a singer - or are primary sources. I’m open to draftifying this article if we want to watch where her career goes but one song trending doesn’t suffice WP:NSINGER. orangesclub 🍊 12:47, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
@Orangesclub Ok, I can accept that the article could be turned into a draft, but first, let's see if any other users have any feedback on the article. Techgamer534 (talk) 15:54, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
Keep | Because there are reliable sources covering her outside of her own posts. She has a real public presence across platforms. She is notable within her niche and people actively search her name. Removing the page would take away useful information that is already verified by multiple mentions and coverage. There is enough independent attention to meet notability standards, so it should stay. Oreoiscool99 (talk) 21:45, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
Again, “notability within her niche” means some actual charting or coverage beyond a single trendy song. Half the references are her own posts or are trivial, which doesn’t suffice WP:NSINGER. Plenty of people have public presences online but there are guidelines in place to determine who is notable, which you haven’t addressed. orangesclub 🍊 22:28, 10 June 2026 (UTC)

Fails the notability guideline for musicians. None of the sources appear reliable (no letterheads or editorial policies), and a quick search for more didn't turn up anything salvagable. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 21:56, 3 June 2026 (UTC)

1. Fist take a look at the list of awards he has won.
2. Look at the sources like Daily Monitor,The Observer (Uganda), New Vision and many others MichealKal (talk) 05:45, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
As I mentioned in the nomination, none of these publications appear to have any indication of a "reputation for fact-checking and accuracy", which is generally shown through the publication having a team of professional editors. Both of the New Vision sources lead to HTTP 404 errors, by the way, so I can't know if either of them supports the subject's notability. The awards listed here are not significant enough to meet criterion 8. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 05:56, 4 June 2026 (UTC)

Following a PROD in 2010, this article had been turned into a redirect to Air France Flight 447, but the subject isn't mentioned at that target. I don't think that redirect was appropriate, so I have restored the article. I think they might actually be notable, compare their article on the German Wikipedia and its sources. Adam Nathanson

Adam Nathanson (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

WP:BLP of a musician, not properly referenced as passing WP:NMUSIC. The attempted notability claim here is "member of two independently notable bands", which would be fine if the article were properly sourced but is not an automatic notability freebie that exempts a person from having to have any reliable sources -- however, the only footnote present here at all is a very short "our contributors" sketch on the self-published website of a book he contributed to, a primary source that is not support for notability.
It also warrants note that an anonymous IP recently attempted to hijack this article to be about a different Adam Nathanson than it currently is, which was also relying entirely on unreliable sourcing (including circular citations to other Wikipedia articles) rather than anything GNG-worthy. (This obviously isn't a deletion criterion in and of itself, but the fact that it stood like that for three days, before I found it only because the IP had tried to file the hijacked rewrite in redlinked categories that accordingly showed up on the redlinked category cleanup report today, does kind of imply that the page isn't being very carefully watched.)
So I'm willing to withdraw this if somebody with more expertise can actually find proper sourcing to support his standalone notability -- but he needs a lot more than just a contributing blurb on a directly affiliated blog. Bearcat (talk) 14:14, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

I’ll add some references later today and you can see what you think. Best, CCS81 (talk) 14:56, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge to Life's Blood: Nathanson seems to have just bubbled under the minimum coverage to satisfy NPERSON. However, he's definitely a real and somewhat influential musician. I'm inclined to treat this and this as reliable sources that emphasize his role in the early New York City hardcore scene as a member of Life's Blood. Merging anything relevant from the extant article and adding material from those sources could help flesh out the band's article. His later works can be discussed briefly there, but they too are insuffiicient to establish individual notability. I'm a bit disappointed I couldn't find enough to justify retaining a separate article on Nathanson, considering his appreciation within certain circles. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 14:59, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
Keep: since Nathanson was a prominent member of three groups listed as influential in the sources (as well as a less-prominent member of a fourth), having his own article seems most appropriate. I added six sources, for now. CCS81 (talk) 17:16, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
With respect, those sources do not at all establish notability, nor does the !vote you made. This is probably an RS with arguably SIGCOV of Nathanson, but it's thin on the ground and is more a piece of possibly expert commentary than anything else (sadly, it's also the second-best source). This is an interview—a type of piece that generally can't contribute towards notability—with someone else and it focuses on the Life's Blood; Nathanson is only ever mentioned in passing. This is a piece on an interview that barely mentions Nathanson. This gets pretty close to SIGCOV, too, but it again focuses on the bands Nathanson was associated with. This is a trivially small blurb insufficient to qualify as SIGCOV due to the type of source. This is the best source, but it's again a brief profile in a listicle of brief profiles published to a standard that may or may not be RS. This is a primary source. You're right: he's been in a few bands. And I've worked for some very small but notable organizations and had my name occasionally published. I don't meet NPERSON, and neither does Nathanson. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 02:20, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
just remove the artcle, unreliable data and sourcing makes this irrelevant for wikipedia. Better to have it removed please. ~2026-22705-80 (talk) 18:11, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
Note that this comment is coming from the same anonymous user who tried to hijack this article in the first place, so it should most likely be discounted as irrelevant to the discussion process. The real estate businessperson is not entitled to a Wikipedia article just because he has a job, but the anonymous user's edits did not properly establish passage of WP:GNG — so whatever happens here will have to be carefully considered so as to not just clear the decks for this user to simply recreate the same bad, poorly sourced BLP of a real estate businessperson in this article's place. Bearcat (talk) 13:54, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
Right, and the anon IP does not seem to realize that disambiguation between Adam Nathanson (musician) and Adam Nathanson (real estate) is easily achieved. The IP’s attack on the musician article seems to be motivated by the urge to have this article title for the latter and not anything about the content of the former. CCS81 (talk) 15:39, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
They and the relevant IPs have been blocked from further disruption on the article. Should this AfD result in a deletion, I'll keep tabs on it to prevent recreation as another article for a non-notable person. If it results in merging or redirecting, I can do the same. Failed WP:GNG and WP:NBLP criteria with lack of significant coverage from secondary reliable sources that are independent of the subject other than controversy/departure from Le Sserafim's debut-related reportings and subsequent low-depth routine coverage tied to the same single-event cluster. There is coverage from multiple independent reliable outlets (including Yonhap News Agency, OSEN, Korea Herald, and Star News) spanning both debut and post-departure developments. While much coverage is clustered around her departure, there are also later reports on subsequent public activity. Yes, but even so, it still doesn't have enough individual relevance to warrant its own article. Techgamer534 (talk) 10:38, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
Delete Subject has not demonstrated individual notability outside of her band other than minimal routine coverage. Doesn't meet WP:BANDMEMBER RachelTensions (talk) 06:20, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
The coverage of her activities outside of Le Sserafim is not minimal or routine. In any event, the guideline BANDMEMBER does not require "non-routine" coverage, and neither does GNG. WP:ROUTINE is part of WP:EVENT and applies only to articles about routine events: It does not apply to articles about people. James500 (talk) 06:35, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
I never cited WP:ROUTINE.
However, I will cite WP:BLUDGEON. RachelTensions (talk) 08:10, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Redirect to Le Sserafim; it is WP:TOOSOON for this person. As a stand-alone article subject, she does not yet meet notability criteria for the general notability criteria WP:GNG, nor the subject specific criteria WP:NMUSICIAN, WP:ENTERTAINER or WP:BANDMEMBER. Netherzone (talk) 16:02, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Redirect to Le Sserafim - Her activities after leaving the group do have some media mentions but they are largely superficial gossip from sources of questionable reliability. Having some subscribers for her Youtube channel and going back to college are not notable activities that have generated more robust and analytical coverage. Perhaps she will develop an entertainment career of her own in the future, but for now it is WP:TOOSOON at best. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 13:05, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

Only significant coverage is on his works. Go D. Usopp (talk) 03:52, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

How great is the coverage? With points 3. and 4. of WP:NAUTHOR, a creative can be notable by virtue of the notability of their works. EnjoyLightEnjoyTruth (talk) 15:59, 2 June 2026 (UTC)

  • Delete – At least in English, I can find nothing beyond basic listings in the credits for video game productions, and sometimes similar brief listings in articles that are actually about the games and not him. I can find nothing dedicated to his career in its own right. As for a previous commenter's claim about #3 and #4 at WP:NAUTHOR, not the frequent use of the word "significant" in those guidelines. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 13:10, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

Fails WP:MUSICBIO and WP:GNG — independent releases on Bandcamp, no major label, no charted recordings, no significant mainstream music-press coverage. WP:BEFORE turns up nothing better. Kqol talk 21:59, 25 May 2026 (UTC)

  • Comment Sources currently in the article are poor and do not contribute to a notability claim, however there is potential for meeting WP:BASIC per WP:NEXIST with bylined coverage such as: , , , ProQuest 1800868981, ProQuest 2169601533, Gale A456083936. This source, ProQuest 1852975821, states the subject is "one of the world's most renowned and celebrated HandPan players" which is a potential WP:MUSICBIO#7 pass. Also coverage in Times of India too, Gale A458188358, but it may fail WP:NEWSORGINDIA. ResonantDistortion 22:15, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep based on the sources found by Resonant. To me they feel well-written and neutral so wouldn't worry about NEWSORGINDIA. The above gulf news name him "a pioneer of the hand pan (hang drum) instrument" who "is arguably the most recognised player in his field." —LastJabberwocky (Rrarr) 18:03, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep as per the multiple reliable sources identified in this discussion that together show a pass of WP:GNG so that deletion is unnecessary in my view, Atlantic306 (talk) 23:06, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
