This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Chemistry. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Chemistry|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Chemistry. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

I propose merging to Mitsunobu reaction because I am finding very little coverage of Mitsunobu as an individual. Most of the coverage is in relation to Mitsunobu reaction, and it may be an issue of WP:BIO1E. Mariamnei ✦ reach out 🕊️ 11:27, 11 August 2026 (UTC)

- Keep verging on speedy keep. Per WP:NPROF#C1 he passes notability based upon a significant impact. While it is common for this to be many well-cited papers, a single big achievement is enough. BIO1E does not really apply as satisfying NPROF is enough by itself. Also, from a quick Google Scholar search, in addition to the paper on his reaction (which has > 5K cites and numerous papers on it) he appears to have quite a few others with cites in the several hundreds. The page should be improved with some of the sources that praise the reaction, and maybe a bit more about him, but that is for the future.Ldm1954 (talk) 14:59, 11 August 2026 (UTC)

completely erroneous
as in SK3, it is erroneous -- hence my use of the termverging
. - Going a bit further, to quote from WP:NPROF#1b:
Criterion 1 can also be satisfied if the person has pioneered or developed a significant new concept, technique or idea, made a significant discovery or solved a major problem in their academic discipline. In this case it is necessary to explicitly demonstrate, by a substantial number of references to academic publications of researchers other than the person in question, that this contribution is indeed widely considered to be significant and is widely attributed to the person in question.
- The reaction qualifies under 1b. As an addendum, I did a little WP:HEY on the article including adding the national prize that he won in 1984 which, by itself, may well pass WP:NPROF#C2. Ldm1954 (talk) 21:49, 11 August 2026 (UTC)

- Merge – While the topic itself may or may not be notable as Ldm1954 said above, the only thing this guy did was introduced the Mitsunobu reaction, so it would be better to cover all it on a single page instead of spreading it across two pages, per WP:SHORTTEXT and WP:PAGEDECIDE. - Keep - clear NPROF meeting - WP:PAGEDECIDE is something I don't believe makes sense here - it'd harm readability for people looking for the science and for people looking for the biography. Jishara (please ping upon response) (talk) 22:25, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
- Keep, notable and the biography is clearly not a subtopic of the reaction itself. I have added the Japanese name to the article. The fact that it wasn't there previously may indicate that WP:DILIGENCE (searching for native-language sources) was not carried out here. Dekimasuよ! 09:53, 12 August 2026 (UTC)

See discussion below. The article is some student creation that duplicates mature, well-curated articles on dye and pigment. The proposal is that this article would disappear and the little useful or unique convent would be transferred to dye and pigment.--Smokefoot (talk) 19:32, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

- Weak keep I was prepared to scream "delete," but this article seems distinct enough from dye and pigment to warrant its own article. However, it needs a lot of work. It needs a massive amount of trimming, and I think a change of title to History of synthetic dyes or something similar would be appropriate, as the content is almost entirely a survey of the history of synthetic "colorants". - Very weak keep. There is some overlap but these are distinct topics.
- A dye is soluble in at least some solvents.
- A pigment is insoluble (or nearly insoluble) in a wide range of solvents.
- A synthetic colorant includes compounds from either of the above, but only those created in a laboratory setting.
- In its current state, repurposing the article to be about History of synthetic colorants is also feasible. SVG-image-maker (talk) 17:51, 12 August 2026 (UTC)

Autobiography of a Lebanese academic. His h-factor of 34 with 5.5K cites is low. The FRSC is an established not-notable award (too easy to get), by concensus being on the Stanford list does not indicate that an academic is notable, and his grants do not confer notability. I pondered just tagging for notability, but his citations/year have really dropped since 2022 which I find disturbing; he had two refereed papers in 2024, one in 2025 and none so far in 2026, GS. If his research productivity picks up again in the future then the page can be resubmitted. Page currently fails WP:NPROF and I do not see enough SIGCOV for anything else. - Delete. Ldm1954 makes the case very coherently. I agree that FRSC is nothing very special, and I was also struck by the decline in productivity and citation counts since 2022 -- not normal for a youngish professor with a PhD from 2000. Athel cb (talk) 08:20, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
