Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Christianity

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Christianity. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Christianity|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Christianity. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Contested WP:BLAR so bringing a proposal to redirect to List of temples (LDS Church). This page is a clear WP:CONTENTFORK of List of temples (LDS Church), with the addition of a couple of columns in the table that could, if editorial consensus allowed, be added to the table at the proposed target. (I personally think the list violates WP:NOTTRIVIA and appears to be a work of original research since I don't see an independent source that compiles all this data in a single place, but inclusion of content on another page is an editorial discussion for that page.) This page, meanwhile, is simply a fork of another similar topic and per WP:NOPAGE should not exist as a standalone page. Dclemens1971 (talk) 13:21, 23 July 2026 (UTC)

Per my response on my talk page:
This was part of Comparison of temples (LDS Church) before the page got too large to show in full, and the primary trigger to why the page was split. These tables are not new, but the location is. Feel free to let me know if there's a better way to show this information.
The final table wasn't fully shown on the old page due to memory size issue which is why the page triggered a split, creating this page as a result. That has fixed the issue.
The content of the tables is nearly 100 percent pulled from a standard template that is used by multiple pages to fill in information. The template content used in infoboxes, tables, and other content across various pages. The content could probably be better referenced within the various temple templates as the content is unable to be individually referenced within the page. The presentation and purpose of the content is not the same in each list.
List of temples (LDS Church) is limited to only show latest milestones, excluds past rededications, and only allows comparing temples in the same status section, by that status milestone, while this one compares all temples by any milestone. Likewise, it shows limited sortable size characteristics and not other info that the other table in Comparison of temples (LDS Church) provide. List of temples (LDS Church) has a different purpose and was never meant to be a replacement of what these tables provide and vice versa.
If it needs to remerge, it needs to be remerged into Comparison of temples (LDS Church) and not List of temples (LDS Church). The memory size issue will also need to be addressed before merging. If it needs to be retitled "comparison of temple milestones (LDS church) or if you have any other suggestion, let me know.
-Thanks. Dmm1169 (talk) 15:51, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
I can't imagine that Comparison of temples (LDS Church) is appropriate as a page either (it seems to be a pile of OR and trivia and to violate WP:NOTDATABASE). Dclemens1971 (talk) 16:00, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
If not a page, what would you suggest? What space outside of mainspace will be most appropriate?
While not referenced, information is verifiable. However, WP:NOTDATABASE does clarify that even verifiable information does not mean suitable content for Wikipedia. The question is it suitable or notable for wikipedia standards.
There's pages that compare religious structures size, height, architectural content, etc. The information is pertinent to the architectural aspects and when significant milestones was reached for each structure.
Even though this page has been on Wikipedia mainspace for about 20 years, used and edited by several users over that time, I do not know of any "grandfather clause" that would allow any page to stay if it's deemed to fall short of the standard. In all that time, there seems to have been no challenge to the notability for this page under any grounds, and it may be more reason for it to be challenged to get a full discussion.
- Thanks. Dmm1169 (talk) 17:30, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
As a brief history, Comparison of temples (LDS Church) had one large table up until a few years ago when these tables were formed to reduce width of the original table and allowed more information to be showen. These tables existed within the same page but as separate sections up until yesterday when it prevented table(s) to be shown in full due to page size issues. The page was called Temple milestones (LDS Church), as that was the most brief description I found which described both tables within the page. - Thanks. Dmm1169 (talk) 16:01, 23 July 2026 (UTC)

WP:BLPREQUESTDELETE. I have exchanged emails with the article subject and they would like the article deleted. Notability is borderline at best, most of the sources are either BLP1E or primary. There aren't enough secondary sources to build a balanced biography, which leads to significant undue weight being given to a single event. Additionally, the lack of secondary sourcing and WP:SUSTAINED coverage leads to large portions of the article being out of date or incorrect. As the subject has requested deletion and the notability is borderline I ask that we err on the side of BLP and delete the article. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 18:31, 21 July 2026 (UTC)

  • Delete. It makes me sad to see an article on a subject like this go, but considering the state of transgender rights in the United Kingdom and the lack of sources for balancing it out, I can understand why they would not want something like this up. This article fails WP:NEVENT since it does not have WP:CASESTUDY that discuss it WP:INDEPTH. It does not have any lasting WP:EFFECTS, and the WP:DIVERSEITY of sources can be called into question, since there are only news sources which cover the topic in-depth. The rest of the ensuing coverage comprises passing mentions. HerrHeulsuse (talk) 11:03, 19 July 2026 (UTC)

  • Commment. The article does not cite any Korean-language sources, ko wiki has https://n.news.naver.com/mnews/article/001/0001843574?sid=102 and there is likely more. A proper BEFORE in Korean should be done before we conclude this is not notable. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:15, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
PS. GS search in Korean gives some hits that seem to contain relevant discussions based on snippets, strongly suggesting sources exist. I am not prepared to say they do, but I am prepared to say no BEFORE in Korean was obviously done by the nom. I'd suggest analyzing , and which at minimum are scholarly works mentioning him. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:58, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
I don't think or contain significant coverage. is probably SIGCOV, since it focuses on source criticism. But this is only a lone source HerrHeulsuse (talk) 08:31, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
Coupled with media coverage (already cited), I am leaning weak keep now. And keep in mind I did not intended to present a comprehensive overview of sources, those articles were just the from the first page of GScholar hits that struck me as relevant. I might have missed some, and others may exist on 2+ page. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:54, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
If you want, then that's fine. But there is a reason that you can't use Google (or Google scholar) results to demonstrate notability. The concept could be mentioned but only passingly, but other people named "Kim Sun-il" may also show up. For example, there are various papers that show up using your Google Scholar result, where only the author is named Kim Sun-il. HerrHeulsuse (talk) 12:28, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep. This journal article shown as my first hit on Google Scholar says The tragic killing of Kim Sun Il by an Iraqi armed Islamist group which occurred in June 2004 was an astonishing blow to Korean society and raised enormous amounts of public debate.. The BBC reference already in the article documents the profound impact on South Korean society. Along with many other sources, those are persuasive claims of notability. WP:BLP of a writer and podcaster, not reliably sourced as passing inclusion criteria for writers or podcasters. As always, neither writers nor podcasters are automatically entitled to have Wikipedia articles just because they exist, and have to be shown to pass WP:GNG on their sourceability -- but this is "referenced" almost entirely to primary sources that are not support for notability (his own website, his own YouTube videos, Facebook posts, directory entries, etc.), while the only third-party source present at all features him as the speaker talking about something else, and thus does not constitute notability-building coverage about him.
Nothing here is "inherently" notable enough to exempt him from needing much, much better referencing than this. Bearcat (talk) 19:30, 18 July 2026 (UTC)

  • Comment: this is probably the same subject as what was deleted in the first nomination from 2013–14, and has also come and gone a few times in draftspace (the current iteration seems to have been a contested draftification, but one prior draftified attempt, and a few others that simply started as drafts, all eventually expired into G13). No opinion on the current article. WCQuidditch 22:31, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete: Unless I'm missing some instance of SIGCOV somewhere, I'm not seeing a single piece of RS material that contributes towards notability. Considering the perpetual recreations noted above, I'm inclined towards believing a deletion outcome should also come with a salting. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 23:44, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. The subject passes Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria, which says:

People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.

    • If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not usually sufficient to establish notability.

But sitting in a church service one morning, he said he was directed to a higher calling: to become ordained to preach the Gospel. Although he knew he'd eventually enter the ministry, Bevere accepted a job at Rockwell International in Dallas. That was close to Word of Faith Outreach Church, where he attended Bible school and was ordained. Bevere moved to Central Florida in 1987 with his wife, Lisa, to become a youth pastor at a church. Then in 1990 they started their own ministry, John Bevere Ministries Inc. ... The review notes: "Sometimes I wonder who thinks up the subtitles to books. Take John Bevere’s latest book, “Honor’s Reward.” It is subtitled, “How to Attract God’s Favor and Blessing,” which on the surface has an attractive ring to it, but on reflection made me wonder, Why would I need to “attract” something I already have and have had since Christ entered my life? Still, despite the publisher’s caption, I respect John Bevere and was eager to hear what he had to say. So I ordered the book and sat down to read. From the start I realized I had a dilemma. Normally, it is not my practice to roast a book but, rather, to simply tell what the book is about and let you decide if it is worth reading. As for Bevere’s book, truthfully, while there is much I found valuable in it, there are some things I did have a problem with. "

Using biblical references and practical pastoral anecdotes, Bevere argues in "Breaking Intimidation" (Creation House, $10.99) that many Christians battle people, situations and experiences that block their ministry, but that most wrestle with the effects of that intimidation, "rather than battling the source." ... Bevere, a charismatic who practices and preaches that the baptism of the Holy Spirit comes with divine spiritual gifts (such as prophecy and speaking in tongues), is a former engineer who left his work in 1990 to assist in churches' helping ministries. He is uncompromising in his strong, orthodox opposition to he perceives as the erosion of Christian standards in the modern church. He clearly wants to be among those answering the call against sin as he implores others in the Christian community to join him. As time is quickly running out, Alan's teenage son frantically searches for a way to save his father's life. But physical death is far from the real issue facing Alan Rockaway. It's what lies beyond death that really matters most in this thrilling modern-day parable about heaven and hell."

There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow John Bevere to pass Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject".

  • Comment: The first nomination from December, from the same nominator on nearly identical grounds, ended in withdrawal when additional sources were presented; however, the user that provided those sources turned out to be a sock. I don't know if all that was forgotten or if this is simply a do-over as the entire basis for withdrawing has been undermined (socks' opinions don't tend to count in the long run). No opinion. • Delete Fails NSCHOOL. Only a primary source provided. LibStar (talk) 01:20, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Weak keep as per the reliable newspaper sources identified in the first AfD which the nominator considered good enough last December but apparently not now and which the delete voter has not considered, imv Atlantic306 (talk) 23:19, 17 July 2026 (UTC)

  • Comment: Out of the 4 sources cited in the previous AfD, 3 are TRIVIAL mentions and 1 is ROUTINE reportage. None of them have SIGCOV. Withdrawing my nomination in the previous AfD was nothing but a hurried and poor judgement on my behalf. I pardon for that. So, as it stands now....there isn't any SIGCOV about the school.
