Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Engineering

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Engineering. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Engineering|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Engineering. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

I propose merging Hypoid gearboxes to Spiral_bevel_gear#Hypoid_gears because gearboxes is a common main application of gear sets, already discussed in the target article. fgnievinski (talk) 12:48, 21 July 2026 (UTC)

Pyrmont and Glebe railway tunnels

Pyrmont and Glebe railway tunnels (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) and Glebe and Wentworth Park railway viaducts (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

I propose merging these articles into Rozelle–Darling Harbour Goods Line, I have raised this proposal on behalf of Zin92 as they originally posted a message on that article's talk page proposing this merge. The merit I see in this proposal is that these features were all a part of this former railway service so it makes for easier navigation for readers to find all of this topics in one article. It also satisfies criteria such as WP:MERGECON and WP:OVERLAP. Qwerty123M (talk) 07:55, 7 July 2026 (UTC)

The Rozelle–Darling Harbour Goods Line (RDHGL) is an historical goods railway line, some of which has been converted to
  1. pedestrian use as The Goods Line (TGL),
  2. other parts that now comprise part of the Inner West Light Rail (IWLR), and
  3. a fair chunk of it, closed / redeveloped / converted to parklands / roads.
Firstly, the Pyrmont and Glebe railway tunnels are two railway tunnels, substantially built into Sydney sandstone and faced with bricks, that:
  1. were part of the RDHGL and
  2. now in current use for the IWLR.
The proposed merger will:
  1. delete an article about a railway asset in current use and merge it with an article that describes an historical railway line. Most readers will not be drawn to an historical railway line, hence WP:PAGEDECIDE.
  2. delete an article about a heritage-listed structure, NOTABLE due to its inclusion on the New South Wales State Heritage Register.
  3. delete an article about a piece of infrastructure that is focused on a structure, and merge it into an article that is much broader and covers a broader geographic area, use of technology, time period, and varied use. Hence WP:SCOPE is too broad and the tunnels will get lost in this longer article.
Secondly, the Glebe and Wentworth Park railway viaducts are two brick arched railway viaducts, that:
  1. were part of the RDHGL and
  2. now in current use for the IWLR.
It is further noted that one of the viaducts is "…the 28-span Jubilee Park Viaduct… significant as the longest section of brick arch viaduct…" on the NSW rail system.
  3. delete an article about a piece of infrastructure that is focused on a structure, and merge it into an article that is much broader and covers a broader geographic area, use of technology, time period, and varied use. Hence WP:SCOPE is too broad and the viaducts will get lost in this longer article.
  4. delete an article where the physical presence of both viaducts  sightlines, length, accessibility, technology, architecture, history, etc.  is such that they are both significant and NOTABLE landmarks within the local, regional, and state landscape.
