Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Hong Kong

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Hong Kong. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Hong Kong|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Hong Kong. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to China.

Recreated after speedy deletion under WP:A7 and WP:G11. This version does not appear to have any serious problems with promotional copy but does not pass WP:NCORP, relies on WP:PRIMARY or WP:ROTM sources. WP:BEFORE found very little English language coverage. Orange sticker (talk) 07:25, 5 May 2026 (UTC)

No issue has been identified with valid third party credible sources like Fitch and S&P Global. Protector134563 (talk) 14:10, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
It's my understanding that companies approach Fitch and S&P and request to have their credit rated, therefore these sources are not independent. Orange sticker (talk) 07:15, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep The Fitch and S&P Global ratings seem NCORP compliant and are sufficient for notability. Jumpytoo Talk 07:09, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep given citing consistent validation from established mainstream sources like online news, well-known credit rating agencies  Preceding unsigned comment added by SilentScribe87 (talkcontribs) 02:43, 9 May 2026 (UTC) SilentScribe87 (talk contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.
  • Keep. This article meets the Wiki’s requirement, such as using credible independent sources to support the information. Also, it seems to be one of the major companies in Hong Kong.  Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-28427-77 (talk) 11:30, 11 May 2026 (UTC) ~2026-28427-77 (talk contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.
  • Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources.

From Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)#Publicly traded corporations (my bolding):

There has been considerable discussion over time whether publicly traded corporations, or at least publicly traded corporations listed on major stock exchanges such as the NYSE and other comparable international stock exchanges, are inherently notable. Consensus has been that notability is not automatic in this (or any other) case. However, sufficient independent sources almost always exist for such companies, so that notability can be established using the primary criterion discussed above. Examples of such sources include independent press coverage and analyst reports. Accordingly, article authors should make sure to seek out such coverage and add references to such articles to properly establish notability.

    Analyst reports

    1. Chen, Judy; Yi, Emily; Chen, WenWen (2026-04-27). "Well Link Life Insurance Assigned 'BBB-' Rating; Outlook Stable". S&P Global. Archived from the original on 2026-05-12. Retrieved 2026-05-12.

The analyst report notes: "The ratings on Well Link Life reflect the Hong Kong-based insurer's modest competitive position and capitalization. We expect broader products and more diverse distribution to gradually support more sustainable growth and value generation, despite the insurer's developing brand, concentrated distribution, and product strategies. At the same time, rapid growth is narrowing capital and exposing earnings to volatility. Well Link Life operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Well Link Insurance Group Holdings Ltd. (not rated), which also owns a Hong Kong-based property/casualty insurer. The life insurer started its business in 2019. Well Link Life has established a moderate presence within a few years. In particular, the life insurer has grown strongly post the COVID-19 pandemic, primarily by capitalizing on opportunities from its offshore customer segment through broker channels. As of 2025, Well Link Life ranked 11th in Hong Kong by new business premiums, holding 2.9% market share."

    2. "AM Best Affirms Credit Ratings of Well Link Life Insurance Company Limited". AM Best. 2025-02-07. Archived from the original on 2026-05-12. Retrieved 2026-05-12.

The press report announcing the analyst report notes: "AM Best has affirmed the Financial Strength Rating of B+ (Good) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of “bbb-” (Good) of Well Link Life Insurance Company Limited (Well Link Life) (Hong Kong). The outlook of these Credit Ratings (ratings) is stable. The ratings reflect Well Link Life’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best assesses as strong, as well as its marginal operating performance, limited business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management (ERM). Well Link Life has been operating a life insurance business in Hong Kong since April 2019, with endowments, participating savings and qualified deferred annuity products (QDAP) as its major offerings. The company has established distribution partnerships with a network of brokers and developed a tied agent team, as well as an online application platform to serve customer needs. In addition, Well Link Life operates six wealth management centres in Hong Kong."

    3. "Fitch Assigns Well Link Life First-Time IFS Rating of 'BBB'; Outlook Stable". Fitch Ratings. 2026-04-26. Archived from the original on 2026-05-12. Retrieved 2026-05-12.

The analyst report notes: "'Less Favourable' Company Profile: Fitch ranks Well Link Life's company profile as 'Less Favourable', compared with that of other Hong Kong life insurers. This factors in the insurer's small size and limited operating history since 2019. The insurer's focus on single‑premium participating endowment products results in more volatile earnings, compared with peers that benefit from more diversified product mixes and higher proportions of regular‑premium policies."

There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow Well Link Insurance Group to pass Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)#Primary criteria, which requires "significant coverage in multiple reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject".

    Cunard (talk) 05:32, 12 May 2026 (UTC)

As I stated above, S&P and Fitch offer businesses a service where they will assess them and assign credit ratings, so Well Link are their clients. It seems AM Best are also a credit rating agency. These are not independent, third party reports. Orange sticker (talk) 07:44, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
There is no evidence that Well Link Insurance Group paid S&P Global, AM Best, and Fitch Ratings for these reports. These three are highly reputable sources. Fitch Ratings even says, "Fitch ranks Well Link Life's company profile as 'Less Favourable', compared with that of other Hong Kong life insurers." I consider these analyst reports to be independent of the subject. Cunard (talk) 08:05, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
From S&P Global's website: "S&P Global Ratings uses the issuer-pays business model. Under this model, rating agencies charge issuers for providing a rating." Fitch's website also explain that they provide a service for companies by providing ratings. While the ratings themselves are non-biased and so can be negative, they have been purchased by the company from the ratings agency. This is also WP:CORPTRIV. • Comment: Here are additional sources I found showing that Well Link Insurance Group meets Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)#Primary criteria:

From Google Translate: "The COVID-19 pandemic, which has persisted for over six months, has subjected businesses across all sectors to significant operational challenges. The insurance industry—which relies heavily on face-to-face interaction—has been particularly constrained by social distancing measures, making sales via agents even more difficult. Link Bridge Life, a company established just one year ago, is no exception; in response to the pandemic, it has had to "change tactics." In an exclusive interview with *Hong Kong01*, Link Bridge Life CEO Li Manneng revealed that the company has aggressively expanded its online insurance application platform, "Link 2 Shop." Following its launch in mid-July, business volume surged, with new business generated in the first 10 days of this month alone reaching an "eight-figure" sum. ... Link Bridge Life was granted an insurance license on April 28 of last year and officially commenced operations on July 23 of the same year. According to provisional quarterly statistics on long-term insurance business published by the Insurance Authority, Link Bridge Life's Annualized Premium Equivalent (APE) for new direct individual life business reached HK$33.189 million in 2019, and stood at HK$7.971 million in the first quarter of this year."

From Google Translate: "The Insurance Authority recently granted a new long-term insurance business license to Lichiao Life Insurance. The license was applied for through the standard regulatory channel—rather than the "Fast Track" scheme—indicating that Lichiao Life's future operations will focus on traditional sales methods, distinguishing it from purely online-based insurers. Lichiao Life plans to commence operations in the third quarter of this year. The company is currently actively preparing for product launches and continues to recruit top talent from the industry; the final headcount will be announced closer to the launch date. The CEO of Lichiao Life is Li Manneng, formerly the Chief Corporate Solutions Officer at AIA Hong Kong and Macau."

    3. "立橋人壽開幕首推三項新產品及客戶優惠" [Well Link Life launches three new products and customer promotions at its opening]. Sing Pao Daily News (in Chinese). 2019-08-23. p. B5.

From Google Translate: "Lichiao Life Insurance Company Limited recently commenced operations... To mark its opening, the company simultaneously unveiled three brand-new products encompassing four major categories of protection: Life, Medical, Critical Illness, and Savings. In addition to providing the public with lifelong coverage for life, medical, and critical illness needs, these offerings also present opportunities for wealth accumulation. ... Since receiving approval from the Hong Kong Insurance Authority in April of this year to conduct life insurance business, Lichiao Life has marked a new milestone in the journey of the Lichiao Insurance Group."

      The article notes :"立橋保險集團是在2016年8月底,收購豐亞保險(香港),並於2017年6月易名為立橋保險,提供車保及旅遊保及火險等一般保險產品,現時再獲批在港經營長期保險業務。"

From Google Translate: "Lichiao Insurance Group acquired Foncière Insurance (Hong Kong) in late August 2016, subsequently renaming it Lichiao Insurance in June 2017.
