Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Illinois
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Illinois. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Illinois|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Illinois. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

I will let you judge this. I am lost. Their web coverage is all WP:ORGTRIV. And the book coverage is only listing them in directories - no in-depth coverage. Does it deserve to stay just because the company is 80 years old? 🪙 Silvymaro 🌏 10:05, 19 August 2026 (UTC)

Fails WP:GNG, WP:BIO and WP:NAUTHOR. Of the thirteen sources, only one Fast Company looks good. The rest are interviews and first-person pieces, shared list entries, a routine funding roundup, and passing mentions. Kqol • talk 23:04, 18 August 2026 (UTC)

Also, heads up to other reviewers, there's apparently a notable similarly-named place named Gilberts, Illinois which your search engine will definitely be confused by if you're not careful. --TonySt 23:30, 17 August 2026 (UTC)

If you go back far enough in the topos to where this shows up, it appears as a place where the road crosses a long-abandoned rail line. Searching produces shipping directory references to that point and references to the road, but no indication of a town. Mangoe (talk) 16:24, 17 August 2026 (UTC)

Per WP:BIO1E, this article is only about 2,200 words and can be merged into the main article covering the shooting, there are also other more notable shootings like Uvalde, or Christchurch where the perpetrator doesn't have their own article. ILoveSmallEdits (talk) 07:29, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

- Weak merge per nominator's rationale. FaviFake (talk) 17:46, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose as mover to main space because the rationale that "other more important cases" do not have their article is subjective. Who determines what is more important ... "more important" in these issues? Besides, the lives of these individuals vary greatly and are unrelated. Anyway, I do not care, but I leave my oppose here. PS: Don't ping me because I won't reply. Thx. CoryGlee 17:52, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- A similar case was discussed regarding Adam Lanza. By the way, seeing the argument from the user that "others do not have their own...", I have taken a look at their page and they barely signed up this year. - Merge (to 2008 Northern Illinois University shooting) although I want to emphasize it should be done carefully and selectively, as the target is a good article. The comparisons to other articles shouldn't be seen as WP:OTHERSTUFF here. The real argument is WP:BIO1E and WP:PAGEDECIDE; the other shootings just highlight that this is generally how those notability guidelines are evaluated in situations like this, and that there isn't anything substantially different about this evaluation. That's a PaG-based argument as far as I'm concerned, and one I very much agree with. –Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 14:09, 18 August 2026 (UTC)

- Comment: I have already spoken my opinion above (which is unchanged), but I wanted to point out that the "1,348 citations for Edgewood" in the Daily Republican are almost all for an Edgewood High School in Madison, WI, which seemed to play a lot of football games in the Belividere area. The only articles I could find mentioning this Edgewood are this one (announcement of a wedding), this one (a short note that a road had been paved up to "Edgewood crossing"), this description of an accident at the same crossing, this article about someone being found dead near said crossing, and this short note about a state representative found dead near Edgewood. All of these are trivial coverage (about something else happening "at Edgewood"), and most refer to the site as "Edgewood Crossing", supporting my theory this was just a rail point. Nominated for deletion due to a lack of General Notability and Biographical Notability. Coverage is primarily routine local sports reporting (e.g., Pensacola News Journal) or transactional personnel announcements, which does not satisfy the requirement for significant, independent secondary coverage required for a standalone biography. I propose redirecting to Chicago "L"#Planned extensions, because there is a serious lack of sources and cohesion present in this article. I tried to completely restructure the entire article to include much more information and sources, but the restructuring was denied on submission. AlphaBeta135talk 15:10, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- Note: this discussion has been included in the AfD sorting lists for the following topics: Engineering, Transportation, and Illinois. AlphaBeta135talk 15:10, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- Why did you submit your changes as a new article instead of just implementing them in the existing one? A restructing wasn't what was rejected, a new duplicative page was. I would have rejected the draft for that reason as well since you aren't following regular procedures, but they seem good. Just edit the existing article but make your changes section-by-section so it's easier to follow. Reywas92Talk 15:54, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- This was the rationale for the draft's denial: "This draft does not have sufficient content to warrant a standalone article of its own, but it could be merged into the existing article at Chicago "L"#Planned extensions" (I highlighted the bolded text for relevance). So, the rationale was not what you described. Also, if the draft was accepted, there would not be a "new duplicative page" but rather a "round robin" move or similar. AlphaBeta135talk 16:07, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- I agree with Reywas92 – just edit the existing article with the material from the draft. The subject has enough coverage for an independent article. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 17:37, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- Pinging @AirshipJungleman29. AlphaBeta135talk 17:44, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, Pi’s comment above seems correct. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 18:19, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- Keep and don't redirect: This does seem a notable (and perennially newsworthy) subject matter. Sufficient sources proving such notability clearly exist but have not been located and applied in a methodical way. AFD is not for cohesion cleanup. BusterD (talk) 08:39, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- Keep article and replace with restructured draft by AlphaBeta135. I believe there is a substantial amount of notable information that would not fit well within the existing article. ElToAn123 (talk) 15:30, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
- Redirect to Chicago "L"#Planned extensions. The article is entirely built from WP:PRIMARY city government documents. As such in its current state it fails WP:NOORIGINALRESEARCH. Further, there were no inline citations, so its not even clear these offline government sources actually verify the content. With major WP:VERIFICATION and WP:OR concerns, I don't think we can or should keep this. I've gone ahead and WP:BOLDLY removed the large amount of unverified text. It is possible that a real article could be made here, but not if it is built on original research and analysis of primary sources. That is not what we are allowed to do on wikipedia. We need WP:SECONDARY materials as the primary backbone of the content in an article, and that hasn't been done. This is not a blog space, but an encyclopedia. I say redirect until an editor comes along who wants to tackle this without engaging in OR and overuse of primary sources. 4meter4 (talk) 01:48, 14 August 2026 (UTC)
- @4meter4 I'm assuming that Draft:Proposed expansion of the Chicago "L" would still fall short, as per the rationale for draft rejection. AlphaBeta135 talk 02:10, 14 August 2026 (UTC)
- @AlphaBeta135: The Draft:Proposed expansion of the Chicago "L" is certainly moving in the right direction; although the use of primary sources is still a bit too high in my opinion. That said, the draft article is immaterial to this discussion. It will need to be approved through WP:AFC, and that isn't something we can do here at AFD. Right now the question before is what to do with the current article that is built entirely from primary city planning documents. I think a redirect for now per WP:ATD is the best choice. One the draft passes AFC review it can always overwrite the redirect at that point in time. That allows us to fix the current problem in article space while still leaving room for an article to return when one is made that is policy compliant. Best.4meter4 (talk) 02:19, 14 August 2026 (UTC)
- On second thought, you could just overwrite the redirect when you are ready. Just keep an eye towards emphasizing newspaper coverage, and book coverage, and reducing primary material use. There is no rush here. We can redirect temporarily until you are ready to move the content into article space.4meter4 (talk) 02:25, 14 August 2026 (UTC)
