Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Odisha|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Odisha. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

This article does not meet WP:GNG as there is very little independent/secondary coverage for the institution. WP:MILL as well, just another college in India, not particularly noteworthy. signed, Kvinnen (talk) 06:22, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

I would like to respectfully oppose the proposed deletion of this article. The subject, Samanta Chandra Sekhar (Autonomous) College, Puri, meets Wikipedia’s notability guidelines for organizations and educational institutions. The college has received significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources, including regional and state-level newspapers. These sources discuss its academic activities, institutional developments, and contributions to higher education in Odisha, rather than merely routine announcements.
Key points in support of notability:
  • Reliable sourcing: Multiple independent news outlets have covered the institution in depth. These are not trivial mentions but substantive reports.
  • Institutional significance: The college is an established higher education institution with autonomous status, which itself indicates academic and administrative recognition.
  • Public interest and impact: Coverage reflects its role in education, student activities, and regional academic development.
If there are concerns regarding the article, they appear to be related to improvable issues (such as sourcing style, formatting, or tone) rather than a lack of notability. Per Wikipedia guidelines, such issues should be addressed through improvement, not deletion.
Given the presence of substantial independent coverage, I believe the article satisfies the general notability guideline (WP:GNG), and deletion would not be appropriate.

  • Keep, reviewed sources in article and found dedicated or focused coverage about the college. All sources combined would be significant to pass either WP:GNG or WP:NBASIC depending on the notability guideline one choses to apply to the article.   • Delete: Fails in GNG as well as WP:NSCHOOL. All the sources on the page as well as those which turned up in additional search are ROUTINE/TRIVIAL and none contain SIGCOV.     First one is completely WP:ROUTINE. The second one is mainly about the telescope being installed there, nothing in-depth about the college. The third one has some info that could be useful, but not in-depth coverage though. So....with just one okay-ish source, it's still the same. BhikhariInformer (talk) 04:06, 24 April 2026 (UTC)

I’ve been looking at several university and college articles lately and noticed that many are quite thin, often lacking the depth required by WP:N or the 'three significant sources' rule of thumb. I can even point out those articles for you, if asked. I’m planning to write more comprehensive articles for these types of institutions soon, but I’d love to pick your brain first. In your experience, why do these academic stubs persist, and do you have any advice for a new editor looking to build them up while staying compliant with community standards?     Please see WP:WAX....it would be better to keep our discussion about this AFD only, since this's the one whose notability has been questioned. Regarding the existence of stubs....it's absolutely fine to have academic stubs, provided the subject is notable and reliable WP:SIGCOV carrying sources exist....only someone has to add them and expand it. But having a stub about a non-notable subject isn't useful. If you find such non-notable pages, please be free to bring them to the AFD after a proper WP:BEFORE. Having a stub about a notable subject is not as significant a concern as having a detailed article about a non-notable subject.

    See, in the early days of Wikipedia, it was only create, create, create....but over time, the guidelines have become stringent and hence, articles that don't meet them, are probably bound to meet the same fate. In fact, secondary schools and higher educational institutes were considered to be typically notable, but now, they are required to meet WP:GNG/WP:NSCHOOL.

    See WP:BURDEN - The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material. So, when you create "more comprehensive articles for these types of institutions", just ensure that WP:GNG is met. Pardon my excessive preaching....I know that you obviously know this, cuz you have already created a number of important articles on various subjects.

    Try searching "SCS College, Puri" (which is another name for the subject) instead of "Samanta Chandra Sekhar (Autonomous) College, Puri" for retrieving the newspapers.
