Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Politicians

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Politicians. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Politicians|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Politicians. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

Repeated third-party candidate for office who has not attracted any meaningful attention, much less significant coverage, during those campaigns. Because he's run in several different elections, there is no obvious redirect. PA Uploader (talk) 21:02, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

Three-time congressional candidate who lost by large margins each time. None of his campaigns attracted significant coverage or anything other than routine mentions, and no other endeavors appear to have attracted significant coverage otherwise. Several-time unsuccessful candidate for office and low-level federal and state executive branch appointee, neither of which confer notability. Very little coverage other than routine articles about candidacy, and not significant. The article also seems to have been heavily self-drafted and -edited. No obvious redirect, given that he was a candidate in multiple years and states. PA Uploader (talk) 14:22, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

One quick note: from searching the page history, I did not see the second nomination; I only saw the first one that showed no consensus. I'm happy to withdraw the nomination with that in mind, because I don't want to contribute to endless relitigation of past determinations to keep, and I apologize for the error. PA Uploader (talk) 14:28, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: the first nomination that ended with "no consensus" was from 2015; the second nomination that ended as "keep" was from 2018. Given that last nomination was eight years ago, and consensus can change (and our inclusion standards seem to be getting tighter and tighter as the years go on), I don't see any harm in letting this discussion play out. (No opinion from me on the article itself.) WCQuidditch 14:45, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

(semi-)perennial candidate who has attracted little independent coverage outside of campaigns. BEFORE brings up some interviews and passing mentions, but not, I think, enough to establish WP:NBIO. Probably best claim to notability is serving on the Tuscon city council, but I think we would need more coverage. Eddie891 Talk Work 17:57, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

* Delete per nom. Yesterday, all my dreams... (talk) 18:42, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

  • Comment: it would appear that this is the same subject as the prior two nominations, both of which ended in deletion–and it was even salted for a time in 2009–2010 (after the first nomination and a G4-eligible recreation), which was removed because sourcing at the time indicated there was more feasibility for an eligible article than had apparently been the case beforehand–but the second nomination from 2018 would appear to indicate that this had not changed. More recently, this had been a stable redirect to 2010 United States Senate election in Arizona, which was overwritten by a TA (there really needs to be a way to fix this circumvention of the longstanding prohibition on unregistered users creating new articles directly in mainspace, but that's another matter); given his multiple candidacies for multiple offices, I'm not sure restoring that is the way to go, and if this is deleted again bringing back the salting from 16 years ago is probably for the best (if the sourcing and notability do in fact improve in the future, nowadays that can just mean an AfC requirement). No opinion beyond that. WCQuidditch 21:48, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

WP:BLP of a political figure, not properly sourced as passing WP:NPOL. The attempted notability claim here is that she's the "working leader" of a political party and president of an organization -- but our articles about both of those entities name her brother, not her, as their leaders, and the sources provided do not bear out that she's replaced her brother: there are no sources provided which establish that she's assumed the presidency of the NGO at all, while the sources pertaining to the political party state that she was appointed the working president of the party's internal org chart, not as the working public leader of the party.
Party presidents are not automatically notable just for existing as people with jobs, however, and have to be shown to pass WP:GNG on their sourcing, but the limited sourcing here is not accomplishing that -- there's a contextless list of three "external links" that mention her without being about her in any substantive or GNG-building way (and, again, fail to properly verify either of the stated notability claims at all), while the only actual footnote in the article is just referencing a tangential fact about the NGO to a primary source that names the brother without mentioning this article subject at all.
Neither presidents of political parties nor presidents of NGOs are "inherently" notable enough to be exempted from needing much, much better sourcing than this, especially when the statements in the article don't even match what the sources even say in the first place. Bearcat (talk) 12:02, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

Keep - with a quick WP:BEFORE I see a lot of sources about her such as Times of India, The Hindu, Deccan Herald, Metro Vaartha, this recording of her speech from what seeems to be a notable regional news site Polimer News, this news article in Tamil from Vikatan, this one in Tamil from Daily Thanthi, this full profile in Tamil from One India, and many others. In my opinion, this absolutely meets WP:GNG. Jishara (talk) 14:27, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep: There is no office she led to make her pass WP:NPOL, however I see she has significant press coverage as discussed by @Jishara that she passes WP:GNG. It is better to keep the article with the appropriate maintenance tag in place. Xcccccccc123 (talk) 22:36, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

clearly fails WP:GNG. Did WP:BEFORE and searched beyond the cited references and only found local Arunachal outlets (Arunachal Times, Arunachal24, Eastern Sentinel, UNI, Echo of Arunachal) covering his May 2024 death via condolence statements from BJP, APPSC, the Governor, RSS. This is WP:ROUTINE obituary coverage, not a significant independent coverage. He did chair Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission 1998–2004, but on having a look again it appears to be a civil-service body, so WP:NPOL doesn't apply here. Biography of a politician, not properly sourced as having any strong claim to passing WP:NPOL. The attempted notability claim here is as a county legislator, which is not a level of office that would confer an automatic notability pass -- it's a local office that falls under NPOL #2, where the notability test hinges on the depth of reliable source coverage that can be shown to support an article with.
But apart from one obituary in a legitimate RS upon his death, which is fine but not enough all by itself, this is otherwise referenced entirely to primary sources that are not support for notability (the county legislature's own self-published website, the websites of non-media entities such as the funeral home that was paid to hold his funeral, etc.) and/or glancing namechecks of his existence in news articles that aren't about him in any non-trivial or WP:GNG-building way.
As well, the article has been flagged by somebody else for possible use of an LLM, which is also forbidden in Wikipedia articles.
Simple existence as a county legislator is in no way "inherently" notable enough to exempt him from needing much, much better referencing than this. Bearcat (talk) 12:09, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

  • Delete. No evidence of significant coverage. Relatively brief mentions solely in local media outlets aren't enough to rise to the level of significant coverage, and nothing in his past indicates any sort of general notability.

Redirect to 2026 Makerfield by-election The consensus at the previous AfD was that Kenyon fails WP:NPOL as he is just a local councillor, and does not meet the WP:GNG either. Since that AfD, Kenyon has lost the by-election and has become less notable, and few additions have been made to the article. Pretzel Quetzal (talk) 11:40, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
Absolutely unnecessary. Keep. KGxHeretic (talk) 18:06, 1 July 2026 (UTC)
Keep - One could argue that he fails to meet notability since he is a failed by-election candidate, however he still has enough sources, which in my opinion makes him notable enough to keep his article. Fixingthelies2025 (talk) 03:08, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep - the general notability of this candidate is off the scale, this wasn't routine candidate coverage by any stretch. Coverage was international, and some of the material, such as his social media activities, stretch well back before the election processs. If he doesn't meet GNG then very few other BLP would do so. ChrysGalley (talk) 07:42, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Redirect to 2026 Makerfield by-election: The article has not changed much since the previous AfD where the consensus was that the subject did not meet WP:GNG but might meet WP:NPOL in the future if he won the election. As he didn't win the election there is no need to keep the article in either mainspace of draftspace. Obi2canibe (talk) 12:05, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

City councilor and multi-time congressional candidate from California. This article has an imposing 86 citations, but 41 of them are just duplicates of other citations on the page. Plus, 12 of them are just election results pages, 3 are candidate questionnaires, 1 is a disciplinary letter, and 1 is the FEC. The remaining 28 citations are run of the mill coverage that you'd expect for a city councilmember and federal candidate. Since he's run for Congress multiple times, I don't think there's one redirect target we could settle on, so I'd say just delete it. BottleOfChocolateMilk (talk) 22:13, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

Former climate official in the Biden admin and California congressional candidate. Being a senior staffer at the National Security Council and a House candidate is not enough on its own, and I'm not seeing a depth of news coverage here. Of the 33 citations on the page: 10 only mention him once, 5 are just saying that he launched his campaign, 5 are op-eds he wrote, 1 is just the list of speakers at a random forum, 2 are just groups posting statements saying they're endorsing him, 1 is an article about someone else where he's briefly quoted, 1 is just election results, 1 is a weirdly brief interview on some random website called "planningreport.com." The rest are run of the mill campaign coverage. I'd support a redirect to 2026 United States House of Representatives elections in California#District 32. BottleOfChocolateMilk (talk) 22:31, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

Thank you for raising this topic. Levine was a candidate who appeared to be on a strong track for notability, similar to other congressional primaries across the country, but has now lost his election. This was a similar situation to the former Zach Sokoloff page, although I believed that one was not notable and it was moved from draftspace by someone else. In terms of the sources, my goal was to focus on filling up the page with interesting information that gave a depth to the life of Levine and build the best possible page for him, as clearly all thirty-three do not suggest notability per our guidelines on politicians or general notability. My belief would continue to be that Levine occupied a prominent position in the presidency of Joe Biden, but I am not wholly convinced that it shouldn't be a redirect either PickleG13 (talk) 01:12, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

  • Comment: Is the notability determination for offices like mayors usually determined on population? I would think there's a meaningful difference between, say, the mayor of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (population 50K), and a municipal official in Lower Paxton Township, Pennsylvania (population 55K). City councilor and multi-time congressional candidate from California. Most citations on the page are primary sources and run of the mill coverage you'd expect for a local official and candidate, but to be fair, she does have some in-depth coverage of her multiple controversies. However, while this coverage is interesting, I don't think that her relatively minor scandals warrant a Wikipedia page. All the coverage cited is from the same trio of local outlets. If her antics were especially noteworthy, you'd expect broader coverage in the region and state. Also, I think it says a lot that the article titles refer to her as "Westminster official" or "Westminster councilmember." If she was truly ubiquitous in the region, you'd think they would be able to use her actual name in the titles. Since she's run for office multiple times, there's no good redirect target, so I'd support deletion. BottleOfChocolateMilk (talk) 22:47, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

Political commentator and two-time House candidate. Article was previously nominated and deleted back in 2011 for a lack of notability, then re-created later that year. I'm not sure what changed, since the majority of citations on the page are websites she owns or books she published. The handful of secondary sources are either run of the mill campaign coverage or databases like Ballotpedia and InfluenceWatch. She's certainly not notable as a candidate and I don't see the proof that she's notable as a political commentator either. BottleOfChocolateMilk (talk) 22:58, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

Article about politician who does not have presumed notability as per WP:NPOL. Coverage appears to be in local press related to election which he did not win. Mariamneireach out 🕊️ 10:03, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

I said keep, i don't think this is just routine election coverage, the subject has received coverage from multiple independent reliable sources, including The Straits Times, The Jakarta Post, and Associated Press, The Straits Times and The Jakarta Post each published articles specifically about Chong Sung Kim, covering his background, naturalization, legal career, and campaign, rather than simply listing him as a candidate. There is also additional coverage from Indonesian national media. Based on these sources, I believe the article meets WP:GNG. Being unsuccessful in an election does not by itself make a subject non-notable.

Fails WP:NPOL. He ran for Congress a single time in 2008 and is now a restaurant executive. In neither respect has he received significant coverage, and neither descriptor -- a one-time congressional candidate or a restaurant executive -- establishes any presumption of notability. The page also reads as heavily self-promotional. In the alternative, I'd support a redirect to 2008 United States House of Representatives elections in Indiana, but this seems like a case where deletion would be appropriate. * Delete Obvious promo piece, fails GNG by miles. Yesterday, all my dreams... (talk) 04:48, 28 June 2026 (UTC)

Comment (COI disclosure: I am the subject of this article). For the record, I did not create this article. Offering sources for editors' evaluation; the assessment is for uninvolved editors. Per WP:THREE, the strongest business-career sources: (1) Business Insider, "29 foodtech power players of 2022 revolutionizing how restaurants operate and deliver amid a looming recession" (Nancy Luna, staff, Nov. 2022) — dedicated profile section; per the article, honorees were selected by Insider's retail team based on nominations and its own reporting on the sector; (2) QSR Magazine, "Meet the Restaurant Industry's 12 Digital Disruptors" (Suzanne Blake, Dec. 2021) — a second, independent editorial selection, with biographical coverage; (3) Los Angeles Business Journal, "Dog Haus Plots Its Next Growth Phase" (Zhiyu Luo, Mar. 2026) — reported feature in which I am the central subject. Additional reported coverage includes LABJ's 2023 piece with biographical background.

On the nomination's premise that significant coverage is absent from the 2008 campaign as well: coverage included a front-page reported profile in The Elkhart Truth (Weinhold, Oct. 27, 2008, p. 1), Roll Call coverage of the race ("Indiana Upset in the Wind," July 21, 2008; "Souder Challenger Joins DCCC's 'Red to Blue,'" Toeplitz, Oct. 1, 2008), and CQ race analysis in 2007, with the race independently rated competitive by Sabato's Crystal Ball and the Rothenberg Political Report.

WP:NPOL does not preclude notability for unelected candidates where WP:GNG/WP:BASIC is otherwise met, and BASIC permits combining multiple independent sources where no single source is substantial; editors may also weigh that independent coverage spans 2007–2026 across two distinct careers (WP:SUSTAINED, WP:BLP1E). I have excluded television and print interviews and pieces quoting me in my capacity as CEO, including coverage in Bloomberg, CNBC, Fox Business, Franchise Times, and Nation's Restaurant News, recognizing that non-independent coverage carries little weight. On the nomination's concern about promotional tone, I have posted a source-limited neutral rewrite on the article's talk page for uninvolved editors to use, revise, or disregard. Should editors find the sourcing insufficient for a standalone BLP, deletion appears unnecessary given the nominator's stated support for a redirect to 2008 United States House of Representatives elections in Indiana as an alternative, per WP:ATD-R. Does not pass the WP:GNG or WP:NPOL. Sources are hyperlocal political candidacy or passing mentions. PARAKANYAA (talk) 06:12, 26 June 2026 (UTC)

I added a few more references and can add more as time allows. I disagree with the hyperlocal comment. The UnHerd probably even qualifies as an international publication. Also, this doesn’t count towards actual GNG guidelines, but the page has been edited by quite a number unique users which seems by itself a modicum of notability. Nweil (talk) 07:26, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
The UnHerd is not reliable per RSN discussions.
That the page has been edited does not contribute to notability. PARAKANYAA (talk) 08:26, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
UnHerd has been determined unreliable about politics, it has not been determined unreliable for popular culture, which is what this falls under in my opinion. Nweil (talk) 01:21, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
He's received coverage exclusively for political candidacy and edgy politics on Twitter and that doesn't fall under politics? PARAKANYAA (talk) 01:32, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
The thesis of the article is literally that about choosing shitposting (which would fall under “culture” in my opinion) over “real politics”. “Edgy politics” is something else. That’s more advocacy pushed to its limit. This is laughing at political advocacy. Anyway, I get that not everyone will share my opinions but it’s clear cut to me that is not actual politics. Nweil (talk) 01:44, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
That doesn't mean it isn't political, the whole article discusses politics, whether it is "real" or not. PARAKANYAA (talk) 01:48, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
My last comment is that I believe that article came out after he was already eliminated as a candidate. It’s not campaign coverage. There was no candidacy on the horizon. It’s something else. Nweil (talk) 01:50, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

The subject fails WP:GNG and WP:BIO. A detailed review of the page shows it relies on only 6 citations, many of which fail Wikipedia's core sourcing standards: One is an invalid, self-published Facebook post (WP:SPS), one is a completely dead link providing no current verifiability, and the remaining citations are potentially low-quality or trivial mentions. This does not constitute the significant coverage in multiple independent, reliable, secondary sources required to sustain a standalone article. MarioWonderExpert (talk) 14:47, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

Non elected politician. Fails NPOL. No independent coverage since the sources are mostly associated with his father Raj Thackeray. Fails GNG. Thilsebatti (talk) 04:29, 21 June 2026 (UTC)

  • Note: this discussion has been included in the list of Politicians-related AfD discussions. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 07:02, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: this appears to be the same subject as the first nomination from 2020 that ended in deletion, as well as three A7 speedy deletions before that (two in 2016, one in 2020 before the first AfD). If this ends in deletion yet again, we might be approaching salt territory. (No opinion beyond that at this time.) WCQuidditch 15:38, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Note: I am the article creator.
  • Keep – While the subject has not held elected office, I believe the subject satisfies WP:GNG through multiple instances of significant coverage in reliable independent secondary sources.

Examples include:

  • The Indian Express (24 July 2022), "Another Thackeray scion out to rebuild his party: MNS chief's son touring Maharashtra to revive youth wing", a feature-length article focused on Amit Thackeray's statewide organisational activities.
  • The Indian Express (27 July 2023), "After taking MNS backseat for long, Raj Thackeray's son Amit is finally stepping into the spotlight", a profile discussing his political role and public activities.
  • The Indian Express (6 July 2022), "One branch shrivels, Thackeray tree sees another son bloom", discussing his leadership of the Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena and organisational work across Maharashtra.
  • Mid-Day (23 January 2020), covering his formal induction into active politics and appointment as a Leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.
  • Mumbai Mirror (23 January 2020), separately covering his entry into active politics.
  • ThePrint (2024), a profile focused on his electoral debut and political career.

These sources provide substantial coverage of Amit Thackeray himself rather than merely mentioning him in articles about Raj Thackeray.

In addition, much of this coverage post-dates the 2020 deletion discussion and relates to developments that occurred after his formal entry into active politics, appointment as MNS Leader, appointment as president of Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena, statewide organisational campaigns, and candidature in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election.

Consensus on the AFD discussions are decided on the basis of arguments by editors and not by some AI algorithms. Please say what you have to say on why this article should be kept and not some AI algorithm. Thilsebatti (talk) 07:33, 23 June 2026 (UTC)

Thank you. To clarify, my view is based on the sourcing available for the subject rather than on any external tool.

I created the article because I found multiple instances of significant coverage in reliable independent sources that appeared to satisfy WP:GNG.

In particular, I found the following sources persuasive:

  • The Indian Express article "Another Thackeray scion out to rebuild his party: MNS chief's son touring Maharashtra to revive youth wing" (24 July 2022), which is a feature-length article focused on Amit Thackeray's statewide organisational campaign.
  • The Indian Express article "After taking MNS backseat for long, Raj Thackeray's son Amit is finally stepping into the spotlight" (27 July 2023), which is primarily a profile of Amit Thackeray and his political activities.
  • The Indian Express article "One branch shrivels, Thackeray tree sees another son bloom" (6 July 2022), which discusses his role in the Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena and organisational work across Maharashtra.

My understanding of WP:GNG is that the question is whether there is significant coverage in reliable independent secondary sources. I believe the above articles constitute more than routine mentions and are substantially about the subject himself.

I also note that much of this coverage post-dates the 2020 deletion discussion and therefore was not available when earlier discussions took place.

Delete. Pete Williams (journalist) isn't apropos comparison here; being the press secretary of a federal government agency, and an assistant secretary of a federal department at that, isn't the same as being a congresswoman's press secretary or governor's communications director. • Weak keep, largely per Fences and windows, I agree that the book meets NBOOK (based on sources that they have already listed), so outright deletion should not occur here. We could make the case that the article should be refocused around the book and moved, but that isn't necessarily preferable, especially given the autobiographical nature of the material, and can take place outside of AfD regardless (see for instance the outcome of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/David Tinker). WP:BLP of a political figure, not properly sourced as having any strong claim to passing WP:NPOL. The attempted notability claims here are that she's been a civil servant and an unelected candidate in a parliamentary election, neither of which are automatic notability freebies: civil servants are not "inherently" notable just because they exist as people with jobs, and have to establish passage of WP:GNG on their sourceability, while unelected candidates for political office get articles only if they were already notable enough for articles for other reasons as it is.
But the sourcing here is not getting her over GNG: this is mainly referenced to primary sources that are not support for notability at all, with the exception of one news article about her in a reliable source, which is not enough all by itself.
For an Estonian figure, furthermore, it doesn't bode well for her notability that she doesn't have an article on the Estonian Wikipedia. Bearcat (talk) 16:43, 19 June 2026 (UTC)

  • Keep. Keeping the article maintains consistency with the existing data footprint on Wikidata. Article created because there was a pre-existing Wikidata entry from 2024 for the subject which I found using the Wikitool, Paulina . I have expanded the article since it has been flagged for deletion. The subject is well-represented in a variety of Estonian news sources and I have translated more source quotes from Estonian news sources into English and referenced them in the article. Mustleib (talk) 05:06, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
The existence of a Wikidata item does not automatically require the existence of a corresponding Wikipedia article, just for the record. Bearcat (talk) 06:16, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
You are entirely right, @Bearcat. I have only mentioned this to address your initial concern about a missing Vikipeedia/et-wiki page, since the Wikidata footprint serves a similar purpose in showing that editors have been tracking the subject on another wiki project. However, since Wikipedia evaluates topics on their own merit, I have included additional news sources to show that the person is notable within Estonia independent of any entries on another wiki. I checked a few, none of which seem to be independent SIGCOV - they were all either affiliated websites or interviews. It would be helpful if Mustleib or someone else could highlight three (or so) sources that are independent significant coverage (so, for instance, a profile rather than an interview) of the subject. Kevichüsa family

Fails WP:GNG. WP:BEFORE search found no independent sources covering the family as a collective subject. All coverage is of individual members, who already have standalone articles (Kevichusa Angami, Andrea Kevichüsa, Chalie Kevichüsa). Also from my understanding as someone from the Northeast, last names in such cases are clan names, and do not really establish that the people are blood related to be called a family. Per WP:BUNDLE, shared surname does not confer collective notability. Flyingphoenixchips (talk) 02:07, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

Comment: The assertion that Kevichüsa family is a clan name is incorrect. The last name "Kevichüsa" was adopted by the descendants of Kevichüsa Angami, whose father was Niser Meru. The original surname/clan of the Kevichüsa's is "Meru/Meruno". Here are some sources mentioning their original clan name that is "Meru":

Keep. I do believe this is a prominent family that must be retained. However, in my understanding this should not be a 'page' but a list, like a family tree, if possible. Open to discussion. Also, from my deep dive into Kevichusa Angami, I agree that Kevichusa is not a clan name. But my larger problem with this page, and all the pages that @The Anonymous Earthling keeps moving with changing name such as inserting ü here is that it does not follow established protocol. These are public figures, whose name must be acknowledged as they use it and not reflecting other linguistic or ethnic conventions. Andrea spells her surname as Kevichusa and not Kevichüsa; similarly Chalie and Tubu did not use the spelling either. Neither of them used Meru either irrespective of it being their clan name. The links that Earthling provides does not have the spelling either. These page moves that he is involved in across Nagaland-related pages are borderline vandalism. Initially I speedy deleted this article, which to my mind meets both the A7 and the G11 criteria. Following a deletion review, where other users did not agree, I've restored it. The subject is a local politician, who would not meet the notability criteria for the English Wikipedia, where we don't include local mayors, council leaders, etc. The criteria may be different at the Indonesian Wikipedia, whence the article was initially translated. Following this, the article was substantially edited by another user with an undeclared COI, which didn't help. The article is laid out in the form of a CV and most earlier versions used the subject's forename, often an indication that they are known to the author, though in this case that is not so. I do not believe that the references provided (one of which is from LinkedIn!) are enough to demonstrate individual notability, so for me it's just a question of whether a "Regent", described in the Regent article as "the English translation of bupati, the head of a kabupaten (second level local government)", is automatically notable. Deb (talk) 16:05, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

Keep. Elected leader of the Dharmasraya Regency, which has a population over 240,000. This is not a local mayor or council leader. The position is Regency (Indonesia).
More coverage of Indonesia is needed, not less. The well referenced id:Pemilihan umum Bupati Dharmasraya 2024 needs translations as well, to “2024 Dharmasraya Regental Election. SmokeyJoe (talk) 22:41, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
Weak delete, but could be persuaded the other way. Here on en.wiki, the relevant guideline on automatic politicial notability is WP:NPOL, which says major local political figures (which I think applies to an Indonesian regent) are presumed notable if they have have received significant press coverage; and just being an elected local official...does not guarantee notability, although such people can still be notable if they meet the general notability guideline. So this boils down to the quality and depth of available sourcing. The article does have several sources which appear to be plausibly independent press outlets (in addition to that LinkedIn page). However, to someone like me not from Indonesia, they feel like biographical material, press release-type material, noncritically repeated when a candidate for important local elected office appears. I don't (yet) see the type of editorially independent analysis I think we need for GNG. I try to be sensitive to geographical bias in situations like these, and have looked up 3 random cities with comparable population size (~250k) in Canada; we do have articles on all 3 mayors, but in one case it is a stub that is marginal, and in the other 2, there is a significantly richer and longer press trace and political career on which to ground an article. So I end up, for now, on the delete side. But weakly so, and would switch if anyone could pinpoint 1 or more of the sources here (or provide additional ones) which exhibit genuine editorial independence and independent insight, from which an article could be written that is more than just a CV. Martinp (talk) 22:49, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
She is weak on NPOL, low press coverage, because it was an election with a single candidate. A better solution than deletion is to write 2024 Dharmasraya Regental Election, for which the Indonesian article is well sourced, and to consider merging Annisa Suci Ramadhani into that, if even post-election coverage is not there. SmokeyJoe (talk) 23:08, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete. Dharmasraya Regency is only one of the 19 subdivisions of West Sumatra Province, making the regent a local elected official. As a regent, some coverage is expected, mostly from local news outlets, which I do not think is sufficient to establish notability.
Most of the references in the article also focus on the election itself, especially since she ran unopposed against the empty ballot. Ckfasdf (talk) 02:22, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
It is worth remembering that NPOL is not an exclusive criteria. Not passing NPOL means you refer to GNG, not a disqualification. Juxlos (talk) 02:46, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
IMO, GNG and NPOL are the qualifying criteria to have article in WP. Ckfasdf (talk) 03:51, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
Please give NPOL another read.
People are likely to be notable if they meet any of the following standards. Failure to meet these criteria is not conclusive proof that a subject should not be included; conversely, meeting one or more does not guarantee that a subject should be included.
There is no requirement for NPOL to be passed for GNG to work. That is in NPOL itself. Juxlos (talk) 06:45, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep while not explicitly in WP:NPOL, regents/mayors in Indonesia have a surprising amount of political authority; they are often elected with comparable numbers of votes to a British MP (in this person's case, ~65 thousand) in the small-to-medium sized districts. I have added some coverage of her ~16 month so far term; there are unsurprisingly many press releases if you look up online, but there are adequate amounts of sufficiently independent WP:RS (e.g. Antara, the Sawit website) to pass WP:GNG. Juxlos (talk) 02:46, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
As I mentioned above, a regent will naturally receive some local coverage. This is reflected in the references cited in the article, many of which come from local outlets, such as Antara Sumbar (the West Sumatra branch of Antara), Langgam.id, Regional Kompas, and Minangsatu.com. However, I do not think this level of local coverage is sufficient to establish notability. Ckfasdf (talk) 03:51, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
And what is the issue with local (provincial branch of a national newspaper (Kompas), news agency (Antara), and regional news website for a province of 6 million people) coverage? There are no policies against local newspapers, only WP:ROUTINE; and consider if these are routine:
Juxlos (talk) 07:44, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
First, thanks for adding and expanding. I agree with you that "weak on NPOL" means nothing if GNG is met (the logical flow is the other way - strong on NPOL would but sufficient but is not necessary). That said, I also don't think GNG is met yet. Your adds, while indeed independent coverage mentioning Annisa, are not really substantial coverage of Annisa as an individual. They appear to be routine coverage of declarations and decisions that you would expect arise in any such local unit, not any degree of reflection about this individual and what is specific about them or their activities in their role. So far, we have "X is the acclaimed candiate for [role] in [location]; her resume is Y" sources. And we have "X as [role] declared/decided Y about a local issue in [location]". What we need is "What is characteristic about X in [role] is Y" or "X's background of ... has influenced her actions by ..." or "X is notable for being the first / only ... in [role]" type coverage. Martinp (talk) 09:47, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep Tempo is a national magazine. Between the profile there and the depth of more regional sources, I feel like GNG is met. As for the coverage focusing on the election... that's par for the course for Indonesian media. The "celebration of democracy" aspect of elections still hasn't died out in almost 30 years, even with a general autocratic backslide in the past decade, and the depth of coverage is significantly greater than one would expect at a comparable level in some countries (in Canada, for example, a county leader race would receive little coverage at the provincial level, let alone at the national level).  Chris Woodrich (talk) 20:25, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep For many of the reasons listed above, mainly that such a person is similar in representation to an elected MP here in Canada, and in this case has received enough news coverage IMO. Dan Carkner (talk) 03:53, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
