Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Sports
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Sports. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Sports|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Sports. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This disambiguation page didn't get moved as per my move request on the 15th of April 2026 on the basis that per WP:COMMONNAME, WP:PARTIAL and WP:ONEOTHER, some users say disambiguation pages, including those referring to human names (first names and surnames), should list at least two non-primary topics that are commonly known by that name, in their main body, not just people that were only born with those names but weren't commonly known by them, or only have them as middle names.
I've added three 'Template:for-multi' hatnotes on the top of 'Arthur Myers (politician)''s article (the Australian-born New Zealand politician) including information about three other people that had the first name 'Arthur' but weren't commonly known by it, along with two people that had the middle name 'Arthur' and the surname 'Myers', and the two human name disambiguation pages for people with similar names, 'Arthur Meier (disambiguation)' and 'Arthur Meyer (disambiguation)', like I've added two of those hatnotes on the top of 'Jason Clarke''s article (the Australian actor) including information about two people with that name, one person that has the third name 'Jason' and the surname 'Clarke', and the three human name disambiguation pages for people with similar names, 'Jason Clark (disambiguation)' and 'Jay Clarke (disambiguation)' and 'Jay Clark (disambiguation)'.
I'll abstain from this discussion because I removed the WP:PROD tag that Bobby Cohn added, the day before it was meant to be deleted, on the basis that I personally think human name disambiguation page's see also sections are and should be allowed to list certain people that have those page's first names, as their middle names. - (responding to ping) Sorry, you do or don't want this deleted? You removed the PROD but have also nominated it, but are abstaining from discussion? I'll note that I don't have an opinion on this (yet), there is more to the DAB than was present and my ONEOTHER nom would of course no longer make sense. Bobby Cohn 🍁 (talk) 13:34, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- Delete per WP:ONEOTHER. 162 etc. (talk) 16:35, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- Keep: if someone's full name is "Xxx Yyy Myers", then we should have a redirect from the natural short form "Xxx Myers", even if they were not commonly so named. When we cannot make a redirect because that name is in use for one or more other articles, we need a hatnote or a dab page entry. There are too many "Arthur Myers"s for a hatnote. So we need this dab page. PamD 05:32, 7 May 2026 (UTC)

Delete – Fails WP:NCORP and WP:GNG. Sources are largely routine startup coverage, funding announcements, partnership mentions, company-primary material, and database listings. These verify existence, but do not establish the sustained significant independent coverage required for standalone company notability. Much of the coverage is routine business reporting rather than substantial independent analysis of the company itself. Haso1122 (talk) 01:12, 5 May 2026 (UTC)

The rest seemed promotional and/or were not in-depth. I do not believe the 'Significant coverage' criteria is met. CommonsKiwi (talk) 14:46, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- Delete: Most sources provide only general coverage and do not establish the company's notability, this article fails to meet the criteria set in WP:NCORP and WP:GNG. Mehru13 (talk) 19:54, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- Comment to admin and other editors: I noticed that a blocked user User:MightyRanger, who run dozens of sockpupets used to harass this page moving to the draft and forth and ultimately blocked for sockpupetry. Now, the very same editor User: HyperAccelerated has came here to vote for delete. Look how their usernames look alike and also have a look at the sockpupetry investigation page, all their socks have 2 syllabus separated by a capital letter in the middle with no space. And also the year of the account was created also in the same ranges across all the socks. I also suspect user: CommonsKiwi, another editor who commented here for deletion with the name the account styled 2 syllabus separated with other Syllabous by capital letter, common style of all the socks of MightyRanger, the account was created couple of months back and become very active after the demise of most of their socks. The nominator of the deletion discussion is as well very new to be familiar with this deletion discussion things, they might be the sock of another blocked editor who is well experienced earlier. Probably they are group of editors who blackmail subjects and if not paid or so they decide to delete articles. In conclusion, this article needs to be examined by more senior editors than the decision be made by suspicious newly came editors.

- I agree that it is NIMBY, however the way Global News covered it, they focused on perspectives of community members who opposed Applewood's redevelopment. Similar articles haven't been made focusing on the perspective of the company, which I'd value when trying to present an unbiased view. As an experienced editor, do you have any recommendations on how to cover other stakeholder's opinions that may not appear in news interviews, blurbs, etc? Only way I'd see is through social media, but Wikipedia bans quoting it, due to it being unreliable. Itsdanielsultan (talk) 23:20, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

I feel it to be infinitely preferable in this case to look at the article itself rather than the track record by the creating editor of use of AI, certainly early in their career here. I was careful not to cite AI use in my nomination, despite there being some AI hallmarks present. - Delete: You can't have a true rivalry if it's only happened since 2026. The article itself, considering what little text it contains, has a bit of WP:PUFFERY in it, namely the double use of "significant" and a "See also" that shockingly tries to sell the rivalry as being akin to India-Pakistan. -- JustJamie820 (talk) 23:52, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
- I’m sorry, but I can’t believe that you think that just because a rivalry started recently, it can’t be a rivalry. How silly is that? A rivalry is a rivalry, two teams from the same area competing against each other to win. That’s literally the definition of the word given on Wikipedia! The double use of the word significant really does catch your eye, but only in one instance is it referring to the rivalry, the other being the cities’ importance and hence why there is a rivalry to begin with. And you make quite a ludicrous inference that because the See Also section has an India-Pakistan rivalry link, it’s akin to that? It just happens to be there because that’s also a rivalry, and these are 2 domestic Pakistani teams. What, are you going to go and delete the Karachi Kings-Lahore Qalandars rivalry page too? As that also has the same thing there as well under its See Also section. XXSniperXX12 (talk) 01:02, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
- Playing against each other in a single season doesn't qualify as a true rivalry just because of the marketings; even if so not all rivalries are notable to have a Wikipedia article. Vestrian24Bio 05:33, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

- Delete. One sports team playing a single game against another does not make them "rivals". Most of the sources appear to be routine reporting on that game and the league as a whole; none of it references a rivalry. Some of the other articles linked as "see also" (e.g. Karachi Kings–Lahore Qalandars rivalry, Islamabad United–Rawalpindiz rivalry, Quetta Gladiators–Peshawar Zalmi rivalry, Lahore Qalandars–Multan Sultans rivalry) appear to have similar issues. The article is about a suburban hockey club in Melbourne. There are very few reliable secondary sources independent of the subject. I've done a search for such sources and none were found. This article was created by User:Paulmcdonald back in 2008 based only a reference from the now-defunct College Football Data Warehouse. I can't find anything substantive about an "Alton Jackson". Furthermore, research of contemporary sources shows that the head coach of the 1929 Tennessee State Tigers football team was Guy E. Hoffman, not "Jackson". "Alton Jackson" is listed in the history of Tennessee State's coaches in this 1988 article in the The Tennessean and in Tennessee State's 2019 media guide, on pages 114 and 122. But both of those sources are riddled with errors from that era. Jweiss11 (talk) 17:12, 5 May 2026 (UTC)

- Keep or Move. It has several meanings as a noun:
- A wubble is a vehicle mentioned in the 1965 Dr. Seuss book I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew, and it appears on the cover illustration we have in that article. A character also appears riding a wubble in the opening credits for the first season of the 1990s kids' show The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss, and the first verse of the opening theme song contains the words
- Get upple on a wubble
- buzz into a bubble
- wubble on the double
- take your face to a wubbulous place!
- implying that the wubble is the vehicle in which the listener is riding to get to the Wubbulous world of Dr. Seuss.
- A metasyntactic variable that we no longer list on the page, perhaps because it is but one of dozens of such words. I suspect it arose as a variant of the more popular wibble which has a long history in British comedy as a filler word. Nonetheless, both wibble and wubble are easy to turn up in print media, particularly programming tutorials.
- A plot element in the episode Wubble in Paradise of a different kids' show that I've never watched.
- The basketball stadium event we currently list as Wubble (WNBA 2020 season).
- A well-known toy that we don't have an article for. I've been mostly editing Wiktionary lately, so I no longer know offhand whether product reviews such as this would establish notability for the toy.
- These are merely the examples of use of the word wubble in its bare form as a noun. A disambiguation page should also list terms that are related, such as Wubble-U, to ease navigation.
- I would be okay with moving the basketball article to the title Wubble and moving the existing page to Wubble (disambiguation). If the basketball sense had existed in 2009, that's how I would have done it myself when I created the page. If you're willing to do this, maybe we can agree to move the pages and close this discussion early. But if you want to delete this page with no replacement, I can't agree. I think that would inconvenience our readers and gain us nothing. —Soap— 21:04, 25 April 2026 (UTC)
- This seems to suggest more of a dictionary entry than an encyclopedia entry. I suppose this could be made into a dab page, but I am skeptical that it is truly a good candidate for a dab page since someone looking for Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss would type that, not just Wubble, and similar for someone looking for Wubble-U (and the fact that the term is mentioned within I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew doesn't seem relevant to a dab page at all.

- Keep The subject meets WP:GNG as a multiple-time national champion of Slovakia in both road race and individual time trial, with a documented professional career from 2013 to 2023 racing for UCI-registered teams including Bepink and WCC Team. She competed at continental level, including the 2018 UEC European Road Cycling Championships in the Women's road race. Per WP:NEXIST and WP:NONENG, notability does not require English-language sourcing, and Slovak-language coverage of national champions in road cycling routinely meets GNG, so a search in Slovak media (not just English) should be done before deletion under WP:BEFORE. Her career results, team history, and championship wins are independently verified by ProCyclingStats, Cyclingnews, and Cyclingarchives, and she is listed among the top active Slovak women riders of her era. His one appearance for Volyn was as a 90th minute substitute and he does not seem to pass WP:GNG or WP:SPORTBASIC. I did find Rayon, which contains some coverage of him in an article covering several players Hamza Garsiev , like many other "crusaders", was left without a club after the liquidation of the professional "Volyn". The 21-year-old central striker spent his entire career in the Lutsk club. After "Volyn" was disbanded, he did not continue his professional career. This young footballer did not shine in amateur clubs either. This content is also copied and pasted into VSN, so both of these count as just the one source when combined.
The only other mention of him that I could find was this squad list. I don't think the Rayon/VSN piece is enough to be WP:SIGCOV and, even if it was, GNG and SPORTBASIC require more than one decent source. Chechen Wikipedia has no good sources. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 11:12, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

- Comment: this has been tagged as completely unsourced since June 2018–the same month this article was created–and as a potential NSPORTS failure since that August. Even that recently, we apparently weren't as quick to draftify or nominate for deletion as an identical creation in 2026 would be (it probably wouldn't even take eight weeks, much less eight years). This is a somewhat unprecedented situation. Afghan Women United, a team independent from the Afghanistan Football Federation with no relation to the former Afghanistan national team, has now become the de facto Afghanistan national team after FIFA and the AFC recognised it as such.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] Do we merge the two articles, or keep them separate and either move the articles or keep the status quo? This discussion has been listed at WikiProject Deletion sorting/Football, and WikiProject Football's Nominations for deletion and page moves.

- Comment Hold off, let's see how the team will actually be treated moving forward. If they will retain the name "Afghan Women United" during the upcoming friendly series in New Zealand with the Cook Islands in June 2026. Its possible they could still be "Afghan Women United" which can now qualify in FIFA tournaments or they are the Afghanistan women's national football team again.
On the other hand the transitional period as the AWU is so short. The information on their participation in the FIFA Unites: Women's Series and the ID camps shortly prior can easily be integrated back to the main article.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 09:58, 7 May 2026 (UTC)

- But WP:SPORTSIGCOV says SIGCOV must be included. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:24, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
- @WikiOriginal-9: Even WP:BASIC can be used on sports biographies, a primary foundation directly under GNG.
If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability;
So to constantly say a sports person needs one significant coverage is directly counter to original policy guidelines. Sadly, this is so, so, common upon editors failing to understand the original GNG setup. Then I lean over into off line sources. My weak keep is based on the fact, that searching for true off line sources hasn't been applied to the article. This is also a level at which multiple WP:STUB articles can survive on the same principle. Govvy (talk) 18:02, 30 April 2026 (UTC)- I'm not sure BASIC does apply to sports bios anymore. - Delete: I've never been a fan of the argument "but sources must exist!"; this clutters up Wikipedia. We can either create the article when we have sourcing, or delete it. I don't see any SIGCOV and none has been brought up in this discussion. This article could sit here and never get worked on if we add a tag. As it stands now, we have no sourcing about this person. He might have been the superstar of his era, or he could just be another routine player; no sourcing isn't helping the discussion, and that's too much of a notability gap to keep it. This is a sports-related curse article, which does not meet WP:GNG and does not warrant a stand-alone article (existing coverage in Sydney Swans#History is adequate and appropriate). The article has been WP:SYNTHed together from loosely related incidents over a 25 year period, and the only thing that ties them together is a handful of references to the name 'Swannywobbles' – appearing only in social media, never in traditional media per this search.
I see no alternative to deletion. Sydney Swans Grand Finals in the 21st century isn't a meaningful search term; and Swannywobbles, in addition to being a social media neologism, doesn't have a single sub-section within Sydney Swans#History which would make for a valid redirect target. There's no need to merge since all content already appears in Sydney Swans#History. Aspirex (talk) 22:39, 24 April 2026 (UTC)

- All 3 sources above are about his MLS career. In regards to link 4, lower-level leagues don't even get full-page rosters with significant details on each player in the first place. I'm not sure the WOFL source (link 3) is routine either since it has 190 words of detail on Loera. See WP:100WORDS. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 15:32, 18 April 2026 (UTC)

- Loera played at the U19 level, not at a senior level. The player also hasn't played since 2024, so I'm unsure how that is an upwards career trajectory. Even if Loera was on the up, if he didn't yet have sources to support his notability, he shouldn't have an article. I don't see how Loera meets WP:BASICSPORT based on the sources provided. Non-notable museum appears to fail WP:NORG (specifically WP:INHERITORG), the only sources are their own website and one article about how much it costs OSU to operate. A Google search turned up nothing but tourist website entries, and zero news hits. Jack Nicklaus#Awards and recognition already contains all but one sentence from this article. The Jack Nicklaus Museum already meets GNG including newspaper feature articles, and only needs a few photographs of the exhibits to become a fuller stand-alone article. Unreferenced for ~10 years. Even if the topic is notable, which is unclear (my BEFORE shows only one hit for the term in GS) the current execution begs for WP:TNT treatment. - Delete - A article cannot show notability without having sources, simple as that. The well-written and detailed part are worthyless as without a source they might as well be made up. The article in its entirety is WP:OR. If the subject is notable, which is a if, cause the article in its current state has not show any notability in over 10 years, every sentence on has no source and 100% is qualified to WP:TNT, a editor would have to find a bunch of sources that support every statement, that as a reminder are original research so might not even have a source.
The article of this Moldavian female tennis player has been not only unreferenced since creation, but also lacks significant coverage to pass WP:GNG. I couldn't find any secondary sources from my search, but found one database — which already listed as an external link — thus is a primary source. ⋆。˚꒰ঌ Clara A. Keep There is such a resource [1] Moreover Her best performance on the WTA Tour was reaching the quarterfinals of the German Open in 1995.[2]
Delete Fails WP:SIGCOV. The two "sources" suggested by the contributor above are one which is an interview with little in the way of secondary information about this player and the other is a database result sheet. Anxioustoavoid (talk) 13:10, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

One source of an interview is not enough, and the second source is a database which will have many non notable players. Servite et contribuere (talk) 05:57, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

I propose redirecting to The Miz#United States Champion (2009–2010). WP:ROUTINE and a really short term team. The main focus of the storyline seems to be The Miz and Big Show was his enforcer mostly. Content already overlaps or could be added easily in The Miz article. BinaryBrainBug (talk) 09:30, 7 May 2026 (UTC)

Non-notable wrestling team, total lack of significant coverage, no independent sources and have lacked verification citations for 18 years. Fails GNG. Macktheknifeau (talk) 10:14, 4 May 2026 (UTC)

- Keep It's been awhile but notability isn't temporary. Most of the online links are probably dead by now. The coverage will be found in old wrestling magazines. I did find this on Newspapers.com. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:40, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
- That's a source for DeMott, sure, but it's a brief insignificant mention of the team/faction, not enough to pass for a GNG source. Macktheknifeau (talk) 14:48, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- It talks about the group too. There are lots of hits in wrestling books/magazines like this. I can't read them all though. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 18:33, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- Those still aren't significant coverage of the faction/team, they are incidental/routine mentions that the tag team once existed, not qualifying for passing GNG. Macktheknifeau (talk) 06:57, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- The one I specifically linked is not a passing mention. You have to click the search icon at the top left. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 13:01, 6 May 2026 (UTC)

- weak keep: Mentions in period newspapers , . Second one probably isn't the best source, but the one mentioned above as well helps. Oaktree b (talk) 14:21, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
- Those aren't significant coverage of the team/faction. Notability isn't inherited, an article that has a brief mention of the faction doesn't confer notability to the team even if it would be a notability source for the person themselves. Macktheknifeau (talk) 14:44, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- Redirect to Bill DeMott#Misfits In Action (2000–2001), most prominent member. BinaryBrainBug (talk) 17:16, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- That section in DeMott's article doesn't even mention four of the members, their ring names, or that they held the Tag Team and Cruiserweight Championships. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:36, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- We could easily add them there if need be. We already have articles of the individual members as well as separate championship lists. So coverage is plenty across Wikipedia. BinaryBrainBug (talk) 20:48, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
- That would be too much detail for DeMott's article. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 22:19, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
- As per WP:SIZERULE guidelines, DeMott's article is only about 2300 words long which is well within established guidelines for being a short article. Adding slightly more detail to one section of a short article isn't a reason to keep his non-notable stable on it's own page. A redirect would be an acceptable resolution. Macktheknifeau (talk) 07:42, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
- The Misfits in Action article has history, members, and championship sections. There is a lot of detail that is not duplicated in DeMott's article and it shouldn't be because the stable had six other members (and Booker T was technically the first leader). This article has existed since 2005 for a reason. Here are some web articles about the MIA from the past few years Aug 2022April 2022 (decades after the faction ended). It goes without saying that there were more in the past that just don't appear in a Google search anymore due to link rot. There is also a page of coverage in this book. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 13:07, 8 May 2026 (UTC)

Not notable. At best redirect to D-Von Dudley#Personal life, but it is problematic since TNT is associated to so many things in pro wrestling: Savio Vega, AEW TNT Championship, and a team who were former TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Champion. BinaryBrainBug (talk) 12:58, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
