Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Tennessee

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Tennessee. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Tennessee|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Tennessee. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to US.

No evidence of lasting coverage. Everything I could find was within a few weeks of the perpetrator being convicted. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 05:31, 17 August 2026 (UTC)

Keep: The lack of continuing coverage many years after the event does not alone constitute an indication that the subject lacks WP. The event garnered extensive coverage by several independent reliable sources, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, KrebsOnSecurity, and WKRN, along with the United States Department of Justice in terms of its resulting criminal prosecution and sentence. There was more than one short article about the matter; the sources covered the events of the swatting incident, the death of Herring, the extortion attempt using the "@Tennessee" username, the behavior of the perpetrators, and the prosecution of the matter.
I agree that the article should not be implying continuing significance where there is none in the sources. However, the lack of continued coverage following the conviction is not necessarily an indicator that the subject was not originally notable. Alazar202 (talk) 07:16, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
  • Redirect to Swatting#2020 Tennessee incident as an ATD. Case is fairly cut-and-dry, and all the salient points are already covered in the target page. It could be expanded a bit, perhaps, but there's really not a whole lot to add to what is already there. Contrary to the statement above, the lack of continued coverage is absolutely a salient point. The subject of every news article that makes it in the WaPo or NYT does not need a Wikipedia entry. nf utvol (talk) 13:44, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
  • Redirect to Swatting#2020 Tennessee incident. Ongoing coverage is in fact something we expect; I can see keeping the entry in the list but there's really nothing to say beyond what already appears there. Mangoe (talk) 16:35, 17 August 2026 (UTC)

Doesn't appear to meet Notability (sports). I can only find sources on database sites, nothing to show notability. Ajheindel (talk) 03:00, 13 August 2026 (UTC)

  • Delete - searches of gsearch and gnews turn up no coverage - fails WP:GNG and likely fails WP:NSPORT Bungle491 (talk) 20:39, 13 August 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete per nom. Non-notable athlete. nf utvol (talk) 08:38, 14 August 2026 (UTC)
  • Merge - The article looked a lot worse when the two deletes voted because someone removed a multitude of "unsourced" paragraphs. The paragraphs in question were simply sourced incorrectly (for Wikipedia), as they were sourced more like an academic paper. I have fixed the sourcing, and this does appear to be good information. I propose merging this with Vanderbilt Commodores.  Preceding unsigned comment added by LightningThrower (talkcontribs) 20:16, 15 August 2026 (UTC)
    • What information do you propose gets merged? Even with the information you restored, there is nothing that suggests notability for inclusion on either page. Ajheindel (talk) 21:07, 15 August 2026 (UTC)
That he used to hold the record for saves in a season at 11.
      -- LightningThrower (talk) 16:59, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
Holding a school record in a particular sports statistic doesn't automatically confer notability. None of the sourcing actually lends notability, either, as none of it is in an outlet that would be considered an independent source. nf utvol (talk) 18:25, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete. GNG coverage not identified. Sources are entirely non-independent and thus not suitable for merging anyway. JoelleJay (talk) 11:32, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete as per above discussion, although I am not against a redirect. Bearian (talk) 19:24, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
