Requested move at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australian politics#Requested move 6 May 2026
A requested move is taking place at the WikiProject Australian politics talk page, discussing what pages on state parliament by-elections should be titled. This may be of interest to those who follow this talk page. --LivelyRatification (talk) 11:36, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
Information on recent move discussions
I have added the consensus formed at a recent move thread concerning Australian subnational by-elections to these conventions. I have added this as, otherwise, I believe there would be some ambiguity, and to clarify that a consensus exists for the topic of Australian subnational by-elections to have a disambiguator. If there is any consensus relating to other countries (i:e, Canada, where pages are titled 2022 Brooks-Medicine Hat provincial by-election), it may be worth adding. - I have reverted this edit as the move thread was relisted. LivelyRatification (talk) 23:02, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
Redirect from long title
I'd question the line in the guideline, "However, a redirect from long to short titles should be created, and the long title should be included in the article". That would suggest that there should be a redirected to Electoral (Amendment) Act 2023 from [[An Act to provide for the number of members of Dáil Éireann; for the revision of Dáil constituencies; for the number of members to be elected for such Dáil constituencies; to repeal the Electoral (Amendment) (Dáil Constituencies) Act 2017; to give effect to European Council Decision (EU) 2023/2061 of 22 September 20231 establishing the composition of the European Parliament; and for that purpose to revise European Parliament constituencies; to provide for the number of members to be elected for such European Parliament constituencies; to amend the European Parliament Elections Act 1997; and to provide for related matters]]. It's implausible that there be links from there or that many would search for the most recent Irish electoral law using that long title. I don't see what that adds to the convention, and I'd suggest removing it. Iveagh Gardens (talk) 06:36, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
