'Recentism' in the lead
@Tamzin and JM2023: There was a minor "when" protest against the lead sentence (introduced by Tamzin)
- In recent years, his direct involvement in the running of the site has decreased considerably.
Now, if we apply article name space standards, on the one hand, the lead should be a brief summary, and thus need not contain details and references provided in the main text. In this case, reading the project page readily answers JM2023's question. On the other hand (and still by article standards), formulations such as recently or in recent years should be avoided, in favour of more precise and durable expressions (which remain valid also years or decades later).
While article and project page standards do differ, I think that following the general rules of thumb for articles work well as regards this specific issue. I therefore rewrite the 'offending' sentence; however, without making it too precise. (The technical answer to the when question perhaps could be said to be "since 23 May 2023"; but the 'devolution of power' has been a stepwise and ongoing process.) Very long sentence
Hello! I feel this sentence is far too long (an entire paragraph) and with both parantheses and a semicolon, is not very comprehensible. I'm honestly not sure what parts of it mean.
"Wales maintains a very active talk page, more watched than the village pumps, which he uses as a noticeboard to publish his occasional "decrees" or announcements, and where he facilitates discussion on all sorts of Wikimedia project matters that he welcomes (from the broadest to the most specific; relating to Wikipedias in all languages, Wikimedia, Commons etc.); the latter often include appropriate notification of current or future discussions on the English Wikipedia or elsewhere to solicit more participation from the talk page's followers."
Maybe somebody with more knowledge about the content could propose a better way of presenting it than one long sentence? OrdinaryOtter (talk) 17:52, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
