Some misleading categories in churches?
I've noticed that several churches that were once converted into mosques1 are placed into the "Mosque buildings with minarets in Greece" category, which I find misleading for two reasons:
- This category, as I understand, covers current condition. Most of those minarets have been demolished, and the categorisation implies that they are an existing feature of those buildings. Additionally it blurs the line between buildings with minarets and those without (currently) in Greece, and I think the distinction is a pretty major one.
- Similarly, my understanding is that the phrasing here 'mosque buildings' refers to buildings built as mosques (so former mosques can still be included, like St. Nicholas in Kavala), which churches-turned-mosques-turned churches are not. Perhaps this would be appropriate for buildings changed significantly, if not entirely rebuilt, as mosques, but most examples here do not fit that.
For those reasons I believe that the category should be removed. I think Churches converted from mosques category is similarly misleading for the church buildings but perhaps that's another topic.
1Those are: Church of Hosios David; Church of Saint Panteleimon (Thessaloniki); Hagios Spyridon, Rhodes; Old Metropolis, Veria; Panagia tou Kastrou; Parthenon mosque. The Parthenon mosque could be exempted as it's a separate page from the Parthenon, and since it's entirely gone there would be no misconception that its minaret is still standing. Fixing Takis Dimopoulos' Article
The Greek writer Takis Dimopoulos' wikipedia article (linked here) is quite sub par. I have tried really hard on fixing it and formatting it better, and I need help with the sources that are included as I don't speak Greek. Can anyone help if they have a clue on how to? - I fixed the formatting and added links to references wherever I could. Unfortunately, one of the references doesn't seem to load for me. Neoptolemos7 (talk) 23:37, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
