Some questions about merging process
Hi :)
I recently joined MERGE project, and manneged to complete a couple of merges by now, but i'm not sure i'm writing the actual REDIRECT code as it should be written, am i supposed to coppy the hentire snippet or just the first part? should it contain the full:
#REDIRECT [[DESTINATIONPAGE#Section]] {{Redirect category shell| {{R from merge}} {{R to section}} }}
or is writing the #REDIRECT [[DESTINATIONPAGE#Section]] is enough?
many thanks in advance Happypenguins82 (talk) 20:17, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Happypenguins82 it is generally best to include the redirect category tags, but if you don't, page reviewers often will add them in. That's not to say that you should rely on them to do it for you, if you remember you should definitely add them; but it is not the end of the world if you forget, since others will do sweeping.
- P.S. I fixed up the wikitext in your question to be in code form here instead of rendering, I hope you don't mind. ~ oklopfer (💬) 20:45, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for the fast responce, Of course i don't mind :) that's very kind of you.
- I used the full code in the actual mergings, but I wasn't sure it was needed.
- And another question regarding the talk pages, after copying the relevant content, am I supposed to place a REDIRECT in here as well (in order to avoid duplications) or just place a proper template and leave the content as is? Happypenguins82 (talk) 21:03, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
- You should keep the talk pages as non-redirects, just place the {{merged to}} tag on them, and the {{merged from}} tag on the merge target's talk page. Duplications are unlikely, they are primarily kept for archival purposes. ~ oklopfer (💬) 22:01, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
- Will do.
- Thanks again :) Happypenguins82 (talk) 22:03, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

Open tasks
Hi :) I'm going over the open task list and I noticed that on some occasions pepople would merge articles into an article they think would be a better source rather than the one that was agreed upon on AFD or different discussions, is that ok? Happypenguins82 (talk) 01:37, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
Open tasks DELETED
Hi :)
im going over the open tasks' and i noticed that in some cases articles were merged not according to consensus in some cases, maybe even got the wrong place in the actual debate in the final notice template, is it ok to change the destination in the closed notices? like in this case for example:
| Anna Williams (Tekken) (e t h l) | Tekken (e t h l) |
The Anna Williams article should be merged in to "Characters of the Tekken series" instead of the "Tekken" which is an article about the series. can i change the name in the AFD template conclusion, this will reconcile the DELETED open task in this case and in many others.
