System for finding vital articles in need of recording

Hi all,

I have just finished working on a system that uses PetScan to find all vital articles that lack a spoken version. I have classified the articles by vital level and by topic.

You can see the project on my sandbox:

User:Rccn/sandbox

Would there be any interest in implementing this into the WikiProject page?

Thanks! Rccn (talk 12:36, 30 March 2026 (UTC)

What's PetScan? - Scarpy (talk) 22:04, 17 July 2026 (UTC)

Village Pump Suggestion Comment

There's a proposal at the village pump right now that concerns the content created by this project.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)#Proposal:_Eliminate_anything_that_locks_in_an_obsolete_version.

Do you know where this got archived? What was the outcome? - Scarpy (talk) 18:01, 15 July 2026 (UTC)
@Scarpy It took longer to find than it should, but here it is: Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/Archive 229#Proposal: Eliminate anything that locks in an obsolete version.
To me it seems rather to have fizzled out without any clear consensus on anything. Felix QW (talk) 07:15, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
Interesting. I don't see the spoken version as being tightly coupled. More just that it was the last recent recording of the article and represents it at one point and time. The digital and spoke time stamps I think make it clear enough. - Scarpy (talk) 22:42, 29 July 2026 (UTC)

A question about a tip

In the "Recording guidelines" article of the Wikiproject, specifically "Step 1: Recording the article", Section 2 "Production tips", the first production tip "Warm up" starts with this sentence:

The vagaries of the day can leave your vocal cords clogged, especially if you have recently been eating or drinking milk-based foods such as cheese and chocolate.

This sentence can confuse the reader. Obviously, one cannot drink food, but this is implied by the wording of the phrase "drinking milk-based foods". My proposed rewrite is as such:

The vagaries of the day can leave your vocal cords clogged, especially if you have recently been eating milk-based foods such as cheese and chocolate, or drinking dairy-based products.

Feel free to reply with your own suggestions and feedback.

Consensus on when to remove a dated audio version

I'm noticing that there's some very good recordings that are also very old. My preference is that a good record is the best recording until a new one comes along. Has this been discussed before? - Scarpy (talk) 18:00, 15 July 2026 (UTC)
