Wilhelm Rietschel

Rietschel was the great-grandson of Ernst Rietschel. He studied art at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, and from 1936 onwards was a student of Richard Scheibe in Berlin. He made frequent trips to Italy during his studies.^[4] Rietschel's work was exhibited as part of the sculpture event in the art competition at the 1936 Summer Olympics.^[2]

In 1940, Rietschel was drafted into the Wehrmacht.^[4] He was killed in action during the Siege of Leningrad.^[3]
