The source material was remade into a 1942 film of the same name. Helen Parrish appeared in both versions.
Plot
A newspaper reporter is indebted to a gangster for raising the money to save his little girl's life.

Censorship
Before X Marks the Spot could be exhibited in Kansas, the Kansas Board of Review required the elimination of a scene in reel 4, where a black porter is telling a story about dogs and poles.[2]
