Xerophaeus communis is a species of spider in the family Gnaphosidae.[2] It is endemic to South Africa and is commonly known as the Willowmore mouse ground spider.[3]
Xerophaeus communis is recorded from four South African provinces: the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Northern Cape, and Western Cape.[3]
Habitat and ecology
The species inhabits multiple biomes including Nama Karoo, Thicket, and Fynbos biomes at altitudes ranging from 62 to 1820 m above sea level. Xerophaeus communis are free-living ground dwellers.[3]
