Yüksel Şanlı (born 14 November 1973) is a Turkish former freestyle wrestler and coach. He represented Turkey at the 1996 Summer Olympics and 2000 Summer Olympics, and won a bronze medal at the 1999 World Wrestling Championships, a gold medal at the 1998 European Wrestling Championships, and gold medals at the 1997 Mediterranean Games and 2001 Mediterranean Games.[1][2][3]

Career

Şanlı competed for Tedaş SK of Ankara and was listed at 1.69 m and 69 kg during his active career.[1] He competed in freestyle wrestling in the 68 kg and 69 kg divisions. At the 1995 European Wrestling Championships in Fribourg, he won the silver medal in the 68 kg class. He won a second European silver medal at the 1997 European Wrestling Championships in Warsaw and then captured the gold medal at the 1998 European Wrestling Championships in Bratislava in the 69 kg division.[1][2]

At world level, Şanlı placed fifth at the 1995 World Wrestling Championships, eighth at the 1997 World Wrestling Championships, and won the bronze medal at the 1999 World Wrestling Championships in Ankara.[1][2] He also won gold medals in the men's freestyle 69 kg event at the 1997 Mediterranean Games in Bari and the 2001 Mediterranean Games in Tunis.[1][4][5]

Şanlı competed for Turkey at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where he finished 15th in the men's freestyle 68 kg event, and at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he finished ninth in the men's freestyle 69 kg event.[1] After his competitive career, he worked as a coach. In 2013, he was serving as freestyle technical director of Bursa Büyükşehir Belediyespor, and he is listed among the coaches of the Turkish Wrestling Federation.[6][7]
