Zhirnovsky District

Zhirnovsky District (Russian: Жи́рновский райо́н) is an administrative[1] district (raion), one of the thirty-three in Volgograd Oblast, Russia. As a municipal division, it is incorporated as Zhirnovsky Municipal District.[6] It is located in the north of the oblast. The area of the district is 2,970 square kilometers (1,150 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the town of Zhirnovsk.[2] Population: 43,685 (2010 census);[4] 47,575 (2002 Census);[8] 46,418 (1989 Soviet census).[9] The population of Zhirnovsk accounts for 38.6% of the district's total population.[4]
