• 3 de enero: Muere Phil Everly, famoso por haber pertenecido al dúo The Everly Brothers.
• 1 de marzo: Muere Edita Guerrero, vocalista de la agrupación peruana femenina de cumbia Corazón Serrano, tras sufrir la ruptura de un aneurisma y posterior muerte cerebral.
• 15 de marzo: Muere Scott Asheton, baterista de The Stooges.
• 20 de abril: Muere Rubin Carter, el boxeador que al ser acusado falsamente de un triple homicidio inspiró a Bob Dylan a crear la canción Hurricane.
• 1 de mayo: Se funda el grupo británico de rock alternativo No Devotion que está compuesto por los integrantes de Lostprophets y el vocalista de la banda Thursday, Geoff Rickly, lanzando sus 2 sencillos Stay y 10,000 Summers. Ello marca el regreso de la música de Lostprophets tras el arresto de Ian Watkins por abuso sexual, causando la disolución de la banda en 2013.
• 20 de junio: Se estrena la película Jersey Boys, en donde se habla de la vida de la banda The Four Seasons.
• 9 de julio: Muere John Spinks, guitarrista de The Outfield.
• 11 de julio: Muere Tommy Ramone, el último integrante que quedaba vivo de la banda Ramones.
• 13 de agosto: Muere Tony Cahill, miembro de The Easybeats.
• 4 de septiembre: Muere Gustavo Cerati, cantante de la famosa banda de rock argentina Soda Stereo, tras quedar en estado de coma por 4 años, debido a un accidente cerebrovascular.
• 4 de octubre: Muere Paul Revere, vocalista de la banda Paul Revere & The Raiders.
• 18 de octubre:
  • Muere Mick Burt, baterista de Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers.
  • Se realiza el festival Cuando pienses en volver, en donde se le hacen homenajes a Pedro Suárez-Vértiz. Allí participaron artistas internacionales por el estilo como: Jorge González, Amistades Peligrosas, Los Rabanes, Ella Baila Sola y Ariztía; también varios artistas peruanos.
• 21 de octubre: Muere Wilfred Gibson, violinista de ELO.
• 25 de octubre:
  • Liam Gallagher anuncia la separación definitiva de Beady Eye.
  • Muere Jack Bruce, cantante y bajista de la banda Cream.
• 3 de diciembre: Muere Ian McLagan, tecladista de The Small Faces.
• 22 de diciembre: Muere el cantante y músico británico Joe Cocker.
