En este anexo figuran las películas con mayores déficit en recaudaciones en salas de cines. También llamados como fracasos de taquilla[1] el término déficit (o déficits)[2] se refiere a aquellas películas cuya recaudación no supera a los costos de producción. Dichos déficits terminan en quiebras de distribuidoras, estudios, y/o empresas productoras que invirtieron en él. Al menos que sean reconocidas oficialmente por el estudio de cine, las pérdidas económicas son redondeadas.[3] Esto se debe a las malas persona en la contabilidad de Hollywood, excluyendo otros costes o añadiendo ingresos fantasma provenientes de terceros. En algunos casos, una empresa puede incrementar su taquilla con acuerdos de distribución en otros medios como VOD, películas en blu-ray, derechos de radiodifusión y mercancía para compensar los gastos de su estreno.[4]
En la siguiente tabla se muestran las películas con fracaso de taquilla; en su título original por defecto, o en español si es mencionada en todos los países. Algunas de ellas, debido a la inflación del dólar, fueron ajustas al valor real en la actualidad. La lista con referencias está enfocada a películas cuyas pérdidas rondan $50 millones, o su aproximado, en todo el mundo.
Cabe considerar que películas de menor acogida estrenadas en la última década no son añadidos en esta lista. Por ejemplo, El quinto poder (en 2013)[5] y Grimsby (en 2016)[6] tienen pérdidas económicas que no superan los 50 millones de dólares reales.
