Pritchett (alias VSP) era especialmente conocido por sus cuentos cortos, que fueron compilados en varios volúmenes. Sus obras de no ficción más famosas son las memorias A Cab at the Door (1968) y Midnight Oil (1971), y sus numerosas colecciones de ensayos sobre biografías literarias y crítica.[1]

Legado
El premio V.S. Pritchett Memorial Prize fue establecido por la Royal Society of Literature a comienzos del siglo XXI para conmemorar el centenario del nacimiento de "un autor reconocido como el mejor escritor inglés de cientos cortos del siglo XX, y para preservar una tradición que abarque el dominio de Pritchett por la narración".[3] El premio se concede todos los años, y consiste en hasta £2,000 con los que se distingue a la mejor historia corta del año.[3]
