Pethia nigrofasciata (espèce type du genre).
Pethia est un genre de poissons de la famille des Cyprinidae. Il regroupe certaines des espèces couramment appelées « barbus ».

Classification
Le nom valide complet (avec auteur) de ce taxon est Pethia Pethiyagoda, Meegaskumbura & Maduwage, 2012[1],[2].
Jusqu'à l’érection du genre en 2012, les espèces qui le constituent étaient rattachées au genre Puntius.
Étymologie
Le nom générique, Pethia, reprend le nom vernaculaire singhalais désignant les petits cyprinidés[2].
