Roy Amara

Roy Charles Amara (7 avril 1925 [1] – 31 décembre 2007 [2] ) était un chercheur, scientifique et futurologue américain. Président de l'Institute for the Future, il est majoritairement connu pour avoir formulé la loi d'Amara sur l'effet de la technologie. Il était titulaire d'une licence en gestion, d'une maîtrise en arts et sciences et d'un doctorat en génie des systèmes[3]. Il travaillait également au Stanford Research Institute.

La loi d'Amara
Son adage, formulé en 1978, concernant la prévision des effets de la technologie, et connu sous le nom de loi d'Amara stipule :
Nous avons tendance à surestimer l'effet d'une technologie à court terme et à le sous-estimer à long terme[4],[5],[6].
Cette loi a été utilisée pour expliquer la nanotechnologie.
Cette citation tend à souligner la réaction intense suscitée par le développement de quelque chose de nouveau et d'innovant ; mais lorsque cette technologie n'affecte pas immédiatement la vie quotidienne, ou n'a pas d'impact majeur sur le monde, elle est rapidement oubliée[7].
