Stephen Fasano, connu sous son nom de scène The Magician, est un DJ et producteur de musique belge originaire de Namur. De 2007 à 2010, il forme avec Vito de Luca le duo Aeroplane, avant de poursuivre sa carrière en solo sous le nom de The Magician[1].

Il se fait notamment connaître grâce à son remix de I Follow Rivers de Lykke Li, qui rencontre un important succès commercial en Europe[2], ainsi qu'avec le single Sunlight, enregistré avec Years & Years et classé septième au Royaume-Uni[3]. En 2014, il reçoit l’Octave de la musique dans la catégorie musique électronique. Depuis 2010, il publie également une série de mixtapes intitulée Magic Tapes, dont le centième épisode paraît en 2021[4].
Carrière
2007–10: Aeroplane
De 2007 à 2010, Stephen fait partie du duo Aeroplane aux côtés de Vito de Luca. En 2010, il annonce qu'il quitte le duo pour lancer sa carrière en solo. De Luca, quant à lui, continue son projet et conserve le nom Aeroplane.
2011–13: Twist
En 2011, The Magician publie son premier EP Twist sur le label français Kitsuné en collaboration avec Yuksek en tant que Peter and The Magician. En , The Magician sort son premier single I Don't Know What to Do avec Jeppe Laursen, toujours sur le label Kitsuné. En 2012, il sort le single Memory à nouveau en collaboration avec Yuksek en tant que Peter and The Magician sur le label Kitsuné. En , il sort le single When the Night Is Over puis, plus tard dans l'année le single On My Brain sur le label de Yuksek, Party Fine Music[source secondaire souhaitée].
2014–2019: Succès international
En , The Magician sort le single Sunlight. Cette chanson rencontre un certain succès puisqu'elle atteint la septième place des charts en Belgique. Sunlight sort plus tard au Royaume-Uni, le .
En , The Magician lance son label Potion Records[source secondaire souhaitée]. Parmi les sorties de ce label, on[style à revoir] retrouve des productions de The Magician, mais également d'autres artistes. Le label est mis en pause en 2019[pourquoi ?]. En parallèle, The Magician enchaîne les dates live, principalement aux États-Unis et en Europe. Il se produit également à Tomorrowland en 2018[source secondaire souhaitée]. Il continue à sortir régulièrement ses Magic Tapes[source secondaire souhaitée].
2020–aujourd'hui : projets récents et Voyage
En mai 2020, The Magician publie l’EP Renaissance. Pendant la période de confinement liée à la pandémie de Covid-19, il lance également Supervision, une série de sessions filmées depuis son domicile au cours desquelles il mixe une sélection de disques vinyles. En 2021, sa série de mixtapes Magic Tapes atteint son centième épisode[4].
En 2022, il publie sur Potion Records l’EP The Magician Presents: Club Fever, composé de cinq titres et comprenant notamment des collaborations avec Kolombo, Samaran et Warner Case.
En novembre 2023, The Magician s’associe au DJ et producteur canadien A-Trak pour le single Love On You, interprété par Griff Clawson. Cette collaboration fait suite à plusieurs prestations communes, notamment lors de la Miami Music Week[5].
Le 8 novembre 2024, il publie son premier album studio, Voyage, sur son label Potion Records. Constitué de quatorze titres, l’album associe des influences house, Italo disco et électroniques des années 1980 et 1990. Il comprend des collaborations avec Sofiane Pamart, Samaran, Jake Shears, Bipolar Sunshine, Nampa, Phra et Boy Matthews[6]. La même année, il collabore avec Purple Disco Machine sur All My Life, morceau figurant sur l’album Paradise de ce dernier[7].
En 2026, il retrouve Lykke Li, quinze ans après I Follow Rivers, pour réaliser des remixes de Lucky Again et Knife in the Heart, deux titres issus de l’album The Afterparty[8].
