カトリック教徒として育った彼女は、ネヴィル・ブラザーズのチャールズ・ネヴィルの娘である[2][3] 。
彼女はニューオーリンズを拠点とするジャズ&ファンク・バンド、シャーメイン・ネヴィル・バンドのリード・シンガーを務めている[4]。シャーメイン・ネヴィル・バンドのメンバーには、アマサ・ミラー、デトロイト・ブルックス、ジェラルド・フレンチ、ジェシー・ボイドなどが在籍している。
ネヴィルは、堤防決壊によってニューオーリンズが水没したハリケーン・カトリーナの被害に遭ったことから[1]、ニュースで大きく取り上げられた。メディアは、彼女が目撃した人食い、ワニの襲撃、レイプ、そして最終的に乗っ取られた公共バスによって脱出した体験を報じた[5][6]。
