ジョン・バトラー (第6代レインズバラ伯爵)

チャールズ・オーガスタス・ダンヴァース＝バトラー閣下（Hon. Charles Augustus Danvers-Butler、1809年9月25日 – 1849年8月8日、オーガスタル・リチャード・バトラー＝ダンヴァース閣下の息子）と妻レティシア・ラッドヤード・ロス・フリーズ（Letitia Rudyerd Ross Freese、1821年ごろ – 1884年5月5日、ジョン・ウィリアム・フリーズの娘）の息子として、1839年4月18日に生まれた[1][2]。ラグビー校で教育を受けた[1]。
1860年時点でイギリス海軍の海尉であり[1]、1866年11月2日に海軍中佐に昇進した[3]。同年に退役したが[1]、年功序列により退役済みながら1881年7月21日に大佐に昇進した[4]。
1866年7月7日に父の異母兄にあたる第5代レインズバラ伯爵ジョージ・バトラー＝ダンヴァースが死去すると、レインズバラ伯爵位を継承した[1]。1870年4月5日にアイルランド貴族代表議員に選出され、1905年に死去するまで務めた[5]。貴族院では保守党に属した[1]。
1883年時点でキャバン県に7,946エーカー、ファーマナ県に6,606エーカー、レスターシャーに5,840エーカーの領地を所有し、合計で年収17,419ポンドに相当した[1]。1876年12月17日にキャバン統監に任命され、1900年7月18日までに辞任した[6]。
1905年9月12日にキャバン県ベルターベット（英語版）のレインズバラ・ロッジ（Lanesborough Lodge）で死去、16日にレスターシャーのスウィズランド（英語版）で埋葬された[1]。長男チャールズ・ジョン・ブリンズリーが爵位を継承した[1]。

1864年6月21日、アン・エリザベス・クラーク（Anne Elizabeth Clark、1844年ごろ – 1909年9月10日、ジョン・ディクソン・クラークの娘）と結婚[1]、4男1女をもうけた[7]。
