セイバイン・ベアリング＝グールド

エクセター州セント・シドウェル（St Sidwells）教区に生まれる。ファーストネームのセイバインは遠縁の北極探検家エドワード・サビーンにちなんで名づけられた。ケンブリッジ大学を卒業後、1881年からデヴォン州トレンチャードで牧師をする。著作は本職の聖書研究から、考古学・民俗学・伝説研究・民謡研究にまでおよぶ^[1]。
