ランベルト・シュミットハウゼン

1939年にケルンで生まれる。1958年からボン、ケルン、ウィーンの各大学でインド学、哲学、イスラム学を学び、1963年にエーリッヒ・フラウヴァルナー教授の下でインド学の博士号を取得。1970年から1973年までミュンスター大学の科学カウンセラー兼教授。1973年から2005年までハンブルク大学教授を務め、インド学と仏教学の講座を担当。数多くの優れた研究者を育て、同教授に師事した日本人学者に岩田孝、佐久間秀範、室寺義仁などがいる。現在、シュミットハウゼン教授の論文集が国際仏教学大学院大学より順次刊行されている。
