c. 4650 BCE
The earliest known tin–copper-alloy artifact is dated to about 4650 BCE at a Vinča culture site in Pločnik (in modern Serbia). It is believed to have been smelted from natural tin–copper ore (stannite), indicating very early experimentation with bronze-like alloys.
Late 4th millennium BCE (c. 4000–3000 BCE)
Other early bronze examples appear across a wide area—such as Ancient Egypt, Susa (Iran), and sites in China—showing that bronze metallurgy emerged and spread in multiple regions rather than from a single origin point.
