From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 1893 U.S. National Championships (now known as the US Open) was a tennis tournament that took place from June to August of 1893. The women's singles and doubles events, as well as the mixed doubles, were held from June 20 to June 23 on the outdoor grass courts at the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The men's tournament began with the doubles event rather than the singles. The men's doubles event was played at the St. George Cricket Club in Chicago from July 25 through July 29. The men's singles competition was held from August 22 to August 28 on the outdoor grass courts at the Newport Casino in Newport, Rhode Island. [2][3][4] It was the 13th U.S. National Championships and the second Grand Slam tournament of the year.[5]
