The 1981 Blue Swords Cup (Pokal der Blauen Schwerter) international figure skating championship was held in Karl-Marx-Stadt, East Germany. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, and pair skating.

In the pair skating competition, Birgit Lorenz and Knut Schubert of East Germany placed first, ahead of two pairs from the Soviet Union: Elena Kashinzeva and Alexei Pacodin in second, plus Elena Bechke and Valery Kornienko in third.[1]
In the men's singles, 15-year-old Alexander König of East Germany won the cup in his Blue Swords debut.[2]
