On December 5, Campbell was announced as the new head coach at Penn State.[1] Days later, having finished their season with a winning record, the team opted out of a bowl appearance following a vote by players, citing a lack of healthy players to practice or play.[2] On December 8, Washington State head coach Jimmy Rogers was announced as the Cyclones' new head coach.[3]

The Iowa State Cyclones drew an average home attendance of 60,862, the 2nd-highest of all football teams from Iowa.[4]
