The 2026 Commonwealth Games closing ceremony took place on 2 August at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland, and saw the formal closing of the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the official handover to Ahmedabad, hosts of the 2030 Commonwealth Games. It was the first time in the history of the games that the closing ceremony was hosted in an indoor venue.
Background
Following the selection of Glasgow as host of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, organisers announced that the opening and closing ceremonies would be scaled down compared with previous editions as part of the event's streamlined delivery model. In July 2026, it was announced that the closing ceremony would be hosted in the OVO Hydro like the opening ceremony.[1]
Production
In July 2026, organisers announced that Scottish rock band Simple Minds would headline the closing ceremony.[2][3]
They were joined by Scottish musicians Cammy Barnes, BEMZ and Sandi Thom, each performing tributes to Scotland throughout the ceremony.[4] Folk-electronic band Elephant Sessions performed during the finale of the event, while Shereen Cutkelvin featured during the ceremonial flag handover to India.[5][6]
As part of the handover ceremony to Ahmedabad, India, it was separated into three different sections with performers from Indian artists Shankar Mahadevan and Rashmika Mandanna taking part alongside a theatrical performance led by Manushi Chhillar.[7]
Broadcast
In the United Kingdom, the closing ceremony was broadcast live by TNT Sports.[8] BBC Alba also broadcast the ceremony with Gaelic language commentary.[9]
