Kama was born in Sivas in 1976. He began wrestling in 1989 after being introduced to the sport by his older brother Hasan Kama. He received his first wrestling training in Sivas and later continued with Ankara Şekerspor. In 1998, he transferred to İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor, where he worked under coach Mehmet Özmüş, and later also wrestled for İstanbul Tekel.[2]
At age-group level, Kama won the cadet world title in 1991 and a bronze medal at the cadet world championships in 1992. He later placed fourth at the 1994 World Junior Championships and fourth again at the 1995 World Espoir Championships.[1]
Kama's senior international breakthrough came at the 2000 European Wrestling Championships in Budapest, where he won the silver medal in the 58 kg division.[1] He reached the peak of his senior career at the 2002 European Wrestling Championships in Baku, winning the gold medal in the 60 kg event. In the final, he defeated Vasyl Fedoryshyn of Ukraine to give Turkey its only gold medal of the championships.[3] He added a second European silver medal at the 2003 European Wrestling Championships in Riga.[1]
Kama also won the silver medal at the 1998 World University Wrestling Championships in Ankara, placed fourth at the 1999 World Military Games, won the Dave Schultz Memorial International in 2001, and helped Turkey to fourth place at the 2001 Wrestling World Cup.[1]
After his competitive career, Kama moved into coaching and sports administration. He worked as a coach with Turkish national teams at various levels, including the cadet national team in 2009–10. He also served as district sports director in Yıldızeli, Sivas.[2]
