Corruption in Brunei

Corruption in Brunei has been fought however it is not fully eradicated, with corrupt officials being called out by Bruneian politicians.[1]

Brunei did not appear in the most recent 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index by Transparency International. The country's last appearance was in the 2020 Corruption Perceptions Index, where it scored 60/100 on a scale of 0 (“highly corrupt”) to 100 (“very clean”), ranking it 35th out of the 180 countries surveyed.[2] The country ranked first is perceived to have the most honest public sector.[3] For comparison with worldwide scores, the best score was 88 (ranked 1), the average score was 43, and the worst score was 12 (ranked 180).[4] For comparison with regional scores, the best score among the countries of the Asia Pacific region[Note 1] was 88, the average score was 45 and the worst score was 18.[5]
