Ahmed Alaa Fayed (born January 31, 1990) is an Egyptian politician and academic who has served as a Member of the Egyptian Parliament since January 2026, where he is a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.[1] He is affiliated with the Egyptian Social Democratic Party.[2]

Prior to his parliamentary role, Fayed was involved in student politics at the American University in Cairo, where he served as president of the student union during the 2011–2012 academic year.[3] He later became one of the vice presidents of the Egyptian Student Union following its reestablishment after the 2011 Egyptian revolution.[4]
In addition to his political career, Fayed has worked in academia and public policy.[5]
Early life and education
Ahmed Alaa Fayed was born on 31 January 1990 in Dokki, Giza, Egypt.[6] He grew up in Cairo; his father is an engineer and his mother is a dentist.[7]
He attended the Modern American School of Egypt, graduating in 2007.[8] He then enrolled at the American University in Cairo, where he earned a bachelor's degree in construction engineering, followed by a Master of Public Administration in 2013.[9]
Fayed later obtained a PhD in Public Policy from King’s College London in 2018.[10]
During his university studies, he was awarded the Student Government Cup.
Academic and professional career
Fayed worked as a research assistant and teaching assistant in public policy-related courses.[11] He has been affiliated with institutions including the University of Cambridge and the American University in Cairo.[12]
He has contributed to training programs in public administration and participated in discussions related to entrepreneurship and education.[13]
Political career
Student politics
Fayed served as president of his school student council.[14] At the American University in Cairo, he served as a university senator and was later elected president of the student union for 2011–2012.[15]
He participated in reestablishing the Egyptian Student Union and was elected vice president.
Egyptian Social Democratic Party
Fayed joined the Egyptian Social Democratic Party in 2015.[16] He served on party committees and later became a member of its higher leadership structures.
Parliamentary career
Fayed ran in the 2020 parliamentary elections.[17] He was appointed as a Member of Parliament in January 2026.[18]
He serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and has addressed foreign policy, economic policy, and environmental issues.[19]
He has also participated in international parliamentary forums, including the OECD Parliamentary Network.[20]
