Bhaskar Bhat is an Indian business executive who served as the managing director of Titan Company, a Tata Group company, from 2002 to 2019. During his tenure, Titan expanded from a watch manufacturer into a diversified lifestyle company with businesses in jewellery, eyewear, fragrances, and apparel. Bhat is a trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.[1]

Early life and education

Bhat holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.

Career

Early career

Bhat began his professional career at Godrej & Boyce in 1978 as a management trainee. In 1983, he joined the Tata Watch Project, the initiative that later evolved into Titan Company Limited.[2]

Titan Company

Bhat held various roles at Titan before being appointed managing director in April 2002. He remained in that position until September 2019.[2]

During this period, Titan became the Tata Group's second most valuable company by market capitalization after Tata Consultancy Services.[3] Titan expanded from a watch manufacturer into a diversified lifestyle company with operations in jewellery, eyewear, fragrances, accessories, and apparel.[4][5][6]

Boards and Governance

Following his retirement from Titan, Bhat has served in governance roles within Tata Group–affiliated companies and institutions. He served as chairman of the board of the airline Vistara, which later merged with Air India.[7] In November 2025 he was appointed a trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, a principal philanthropic trust associated with the Tata Group, for a three-year term.[8][1]

Recognition

Bhat has received Distinguished Alumnus awards from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.[9]
