Iqbal Ahmad (1 January 1948 - 9 May 2025) was an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1974 batch, assigned to the Madhya Pradesh cadre.[1] He held various administrative positions in the Madhya Pradesh government during his service.[2] He succeeded at achieving the highest position as Chief Information Commissioner of Madhya Pradesh government, a presitigious state information commission in India (2012). [3]

Early life
Iqbal Ahmad was born on 1 January 1948 at Lar, a town in Deoria District, Uttar Pradesh. He received his early education in his hometown, Uttar Pradesh. He achieved B.A. and LL.B degrees before qualifying IAS examination in 1974 from the aforementioned state. He joined administrative responsibilities in Madhya Pradesh on 14 July 1974.[1][2]
Career
Iqbal Ahamd worked at a senior position as District Magistrate, DM, of Sehore district during 1980-83, after serving low level administrative roles in the state from 1974.[4] In the early 1990s, he was appointed Commissioner of the Indore division.[2] Subsequently, he was posted in the state capital, Bhopal, where he managed responsibilities in multiple state government departments, including Principal Secretary of Revenue, Agriculture Production Commissioner, and Principal Secretary of Urban Administration and Development.[5] Later in his career, Ahmad served as Agriculture Production Commissioner and was promoted to the rank of Additional Chief Secretary. In addition, he was appointed as a member of the Madhya Pradesh State Finance Commission (2007).[6][7] Lastly, he was superannuated as Information Commissioner including promotion to Chief Information Commissioner by the Madhya Pradesh Government with a view to strengthening the RTI Act (2007-2012).[8][9]. However, he fulfilled his RTI responsibility in the aforementioned state as Chief information Commissioner that ended toward the end of 2012. [10]
Death
Iqbal Ahmad after his retirement continued to reside in Bhopal where he passed away on 9 May 2025. He was buried in Jahangirabad Karastan, Bhopal.[2]
