Janice McDonald is a Canadian entrepreneur and author based in Ottawa. She has co-authored national studies on women entrepreneurs in Canada with researchers at Carleton University.[1][2] In 2022 she received an honorary Doctor of Laws from Carleton University in recognition of her work related to women's economic empowerment, leadership and entrepreneurship.[3][4]

Comment: Seeing a lot of reference bombing and notability bombing (see WP:NOTEBOMB) and citations that don't actually support the text of the article. Early career
McDonald co-founded CD Warehouse, an independent music retailer in Ottawa, in 1991. The chain expanded to multiple locations and received national awards for Top Independent Music Store in Canada in 2002 and 2009 before closing in 2015.[5] She also co-founded MyMusic.com, an early Canadian e-commerce site for music.[6]
The Protégé Project
As national board chair of Women in Communications and Technology (www.wct-fct.com), McDonald co-created the Protégé Project in 2014. The program pairs senior women executives in communications, media and technology with sponsors from outside their organizations to support advancement to executive roles.[7]
Education and honours
McDonald completed a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Ottawa in 1988 and a Bachelor of Arts Honours and Master of Arts at Carleton University in 1992.[8] She later earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of King's College in 2016 and an ICD.D designation from the Rotman School of Management in 2014.[9] In 2022 Carleton University awarded her an honorary Doctor of Laws in recognition of her contributions related to women's economic empowerment, leadership and entrepreneurship.[10][11]
