Comment: "The firm’s approach centers on an architecture of dialogue, embracing an inclusive, relational understanding to the surrounding world, fostering meaningful connections within its growing complexity" is promotional marketing garbage. Theroadislong (talk) 17:08, 26 March 2026 (UTC)

History
KAAN Architecten traces its origins to Claus en Kaan Architecten, founded in Amsterdam by Felix Claus and Kees Kaan in 1987; the partnership was formally dissolved in January 2014.[4] After 27 years of joint practice, the partnership ended in January 2014. Kees Kaan, Dikkie Scipio and Vincent Panhuysen continued their work under the name KAAN Architecten.[5] In December 2025, KAAN Architecten announced the appointment of associate partners Renata Gilio, Marco Lanna, Antony Laurijsen, and Hrvoje Smidihen.[6]
Academia
The firm maintains close links with architectural academia through teaching and research-through-design. Since 2006 Kees Kaan has been professor at Delft University of Technology, where he founded the Complex Projects chair in 2012[7]; the group leads urban-scale studios and public programmes (e.g. Amsterdam 2050/AMS Mid-City).[8] In February 2025 Kaan concluded a term as Head of the Architecture Department while continuing to lead Complex Projects.[9] Dikkie Scipio was appointed Professor of Architectural Design at the Münster University of Applied Sciences in 2019.[10] Vincent Panhuysen is a regular guest lecturer, including at North Carolina State University (2019).[11]
