Early life and education
Stefanie grew up in the north and eastern part of the Netherlands. She studied chemical engineering and computer science at the University of Twente and later worked in the information technology sector.[2]
Before beginning a career in drag performance, Stefanie held a corporate position in technology. She later left the field to focus on creative work and performance.[2]
The drag persona “Lilly Akuma” originated from an earlier online alias. The surname “Akuma”, derived from a Japanese word meaning “devil”, reflects the playful contrast between the character’s appearance and personality.[3]
Career
Akuma began performing drag in the end of 2023. Her performances combine theatrical storytelling, dance, and commentary on identity and social issues.[3]
In addition to stage performances, Akuma hosts workshops and masterclasses focused on drag performance and stage presence. These workshops often teach skills such as movement in heels, performance techniques, and confidence building.[4]
