History

Laguna Development Bank was established on May 8, 1961 in Calamba City, Laguna by a group of local businessmen and professionals who aimed to support economic development in the province. The founders envisioned a financial institution that would provide accessible banking services to local communities, small businesses, and agricultural sectors that lacked sufficient financial support during that period.[3]

In its early years, the bank operated as a community based institution focused on savings mobilization and lending to local enterprises. As economic activity in Laguna and nearby provinces expanded, the bank gradually increased its branch network and financial services.

In 1975, the bank changed its corporate name from Laguna Development Bank to Luzon Development Bank. The rebranding reflected its broader vision to serve a larger market beyond Laguna and expand its operations throughout Luzon.

Expansion

Over the following decades, Luzon Development Bank expanded its operations into Metro Manila, CALABARZON, and parts of Central Luzon. The bank developed a wider portfolio of banking services including consumer loans, business financing, real estate loans, and treasury services. The bank also integrated electronic banking systems and ATM services through the BancNet network. LDB is recognized as the largest private development bank in the Luzon region.[4]
