Manoj Kumar Goswami (born 1962) is an Indian journalist, editor, and author from Assam. He is known for his work in Assamese-language media and literature, and received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2022 for his short story collection Bhool Satya.[1][2]. Since January 2025, he has served as a visiting professor in the Department of Social Sciences at Gauhati University [3][4]

Early life and education

Goswami was born in 1962 in Nagaon, Assam[5]. He earned a master's degree in physics.[6]

Career

Goswami began his journalism career in the late 1980s[7]. He has held editorial positions at several Assamese newspapers, including Natun Dainik[8]. He has served as editor-in-chief of the Assamese daily newspaper Amar Asom[9] and satellite news channels DY365 [10]and NKTV.[11][12]

In January 2025, Goswami was appointed as a visiting professor in the Department of Social Sciences at Gauhati University, where he teaches on language, literature, and journalism.[13]

Literary career

Goswami emerged as a writer in the 1980s, focusing on short stories with analytical character insights and diverse themes[14]. His notable works include the short story collections Bhool Satya, Ishwarhinata, Premhinata, Samiran Baruah Ahi Ase, Virus Aru Anyanya, Pasjon Bondhu, and Aluminiumor Anguli; the novel Anadi Aru Anyanya. His story "The Vulture" ("Xogun") was adapted into an Assamese short film that won awards and was screened at international festivals[15]. It was included in the anthology ''Our Favourite Indian Stories'' edited by Khushwant Singh.
