History
My Town Rocks was founded in 2016 with the launch of Cheltenham Rocks, a website focused on helping families find local activities and events.[1]
Additional local sites were subsequently launched in other towns and cities across the United Kingdom, including Coventry and Guildford.[2]
The project developed into a wider network of locally focused websites operating across multiple towns and cities in the United Kingdom.[3]
COVID-19 response
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the platform adapted from listing in-person events to providing at-home resources for families.[1]
According to Gloucestershire Live, the website was used by families to access activities and information during lockdown periods when in-person events were unavailable.[1]
Media and recognition
In April 2021, founder Laura Brookes appeared on BBC News to discuss the easing of COVID-19 restrictions and their impact on families and local businesses.[4]
The platform, including Coventry Rocks, was featured as part of Coventry’s UK City of Culture celebrations in 2021.[5][6]
Coventry Rocks received recognition in the 2022 Acquisition International awards.[7]
The platform was referenced in regional media following a mention on the podcast Parenting Hell in 2025.[8]
